Cabelas has an Armasight Thermal Clip-On for $6k where you mount it in front of your regular day time scope. Has Anyone done this before since I was wondering how well it would work. For example, if your day time scope is a high end $3k scope, would it be any benefit on using such scope or can you just put a cheapo $50 scope since you are looking at a video picture any way? Any Thoughts ????

You wouldn't get a whole lot of increased performance from a high end scope and sometimes a lower base magnification on the day scope is better in terms of focusing on the clip-on screen.
Regardless of day optic magnification you'll be limited in distance by the front objective size of the clip on (bigger is better here and bigger is also heavier).
Whats the model number of the Armasight clip on ?
6k sounds like a lot of dough ...

Apparently, Cabelas brand their own model from Armasight and they call it it the Armasight Overlord which provides lifetime warranty. Looks like it is the same model as the Armasight Appolo Pro 640 30hz that Optics Planet sells for $6.9k but Cabelas has it on sale for $6k. Here is the link to Cabela's sale.

Lifetime warranty through who?
Armasight was bought out - I.e. If they stop servicing or making parts then your SOL
I have been watching a guy's videos that his Armasight goes out of focus after shooting - he is using rubber bands around the front objective to deter this occurrence.
Doesn't instill a lot of confident in Armasight warranting their product for a lifetime ...
YMMV

Lifetime warranty provided by Cabelas since they branded their name on the scope. Cabelas branded rods, reels, smokers, vacuum sealers, etc... Carries lifetime warranty. Look up the scope that is currently in their bargain cave and search for "Armasight Overlord" and you will see. If replacement is not available, they will give you comprorable item.

Here's a link --> Overlord Thermal Nice piece, if you are only considering a clip-on, maybe not a bad deal. I think you can get a self-contained Thermal I'll call it for less and be happier.

Looks like you can use this unit as stand-alone by turning on the cross hair. Can someone explain the function of the secondary day time scope when used in conjunction with the thermal. I am still trying to understand the benefit of the clip-on vs. stand-alone thermal scope.
