My new Reap-IR arrived! When I first saw it in the bag, my first though was huh, they send me a toy copy! It was so small it didn't seem real... but it is! What a wonderful piece of technology!

I installed batteries and gave it a test last night - man what a tremendous improvement over night vision technology! The OLED screen is awesome. I have configurations to learn but it's so much fun. I hate that I don't have time to zero this week but I mounted it on my 6.5 Grendel for a picture.

Looks great...I imagine the weight savings alone over the IR Mark II make the extra cost worth it. Like the Omega as well...how happy are you with it?

DocHorton - The 2 Omega's I own are the only suppressors I've ever used so I cannot compare them against other brands. I can tell you I always hunt suppressed now. I use them on 308, 556, and 6.5 Grendels.

Love not using ear protection - no ear ringing whatsoever on shots

The muzzle/anchor brake works well. Follow up shots stay near target

The fast attach active spring retention (ASR) makes it very easy to switch the suppressor between rifles. Note I do see a slight POI from each rifle original zero.

Is Game spooked - yep they are. Hard to say if it's from the supersonic bullet velocity noise or if it's the audible "slap" when my bullet hits their friends next to them.

There have been instances where I shoot one and the others appear unsure what going on. Other times they take off running in many different directions.

Certainly the suppression isn't as quite as you see in the movies.

Would I purchase a suppressor again? If I have the funds available, I would. But if there were hunting purchases with higher priority, I'd pass on the suppressors.

Nice choice. I would offer that you should go into the "L3" line of the software and turn the thumb lock on. It will remember it each time you turn it on. Otherwise, when you fire the weapon the menu screen can pop up. It isn't a situation that makes it unusable, but it is disconcerting.

I have an Omega paired with my LWRC/REAP IR. I like it OK, but I have a Harvester on a Wilson Combat pared with my MKIII 60 mm. The Harvester is quieter.

Here is a pic of my LWRC with the REAP IR. Note that I am using the external power. I can generally run all weekend on a single charge, give or take 20 hours, depending on the battery used. Thermals eat CR123 batteries. The external battery setup pays for itself pretty quick. Might want to talk to Rich or Tyler about it.

Disclaimer: I developed the external battery adapter and hold a broad patent for powering NV or thermal scopes through the battery port. They are sold through UNV. I do make a little money on them. That is not why I suggest their use. I believe in them and use them on all my thermals and any gear that uses CR123's. One is also offered for the ATN Thor.

Thanks for the suggestions on the thumb lock. I can't remember if I turned it on or off. I'll play with it tonight. UNV sent me the freebies and I purchased the external battery pack (Rich did me right on pricing).

I appreciate any additional suggests you might have. This is my first and likely only Thermal. So far, it appears easy to use.

BTW, when I purchased the Omega's, I use the DB rating in the technical specs. Omega was one of the best for reducing the DB level at the time. The omega and harvester DB specs are the same for a 308. perhaps the additional 3" harvester length and 8 ounces heavier are the difference?

I try to go by specs on a lot of things too. Usually works out. In this case, every single person that has been around when both have been in use has noted that the Harvester is notably quieter. However, I think the Omega is better built.

I can't say the weight is any kind of issue.

The software in the IRD products is just striking. So clear and sharp. I still love it every time I put one to my eye. I have purchased 3 MKIII's 60 mm, one REAP IR and on IR Patrol. The 60 mm MKIII is just incredible.

Like all of the other manufacturers, they lack in that area. You'll learn it fast enough.

No, I carry the weapons in padded soft cases. No issues so far....but a scope cover would be a good idea.

where is the selection for the white/black hot modes and the edge detection mode? Hope you don't mind the questions.

Don't mind at all. I'll send the bill to Tyler and Rich... LOL The white/black hot modes are adjusted on the "L1" line. You will see 6 boxes, three white, three black. Select the one you want, black or white. The box to the far left on each color is most dim setting and gets brighter as you move to the right.

I finally mounted and zeroed my Reap-IR on a AR 6.5 Grendel this week. It's amazing how clear the OLED screen is. I had no problems sighting in at 100 yards.

Got my first pig Wednesday night at 150 yards. First shot behind the ear and he dropped. He kept kicking his rear feet so I a sent a SST to his throat.

I haven't mounted the DVR yet so I have no video.

Very nice! If you have not programmed your Quick Command Mode check it out. I think is the most underrated feature on the REAP-IR. I have mine set to NUC(right), image capture(left), zoom(down), and polarity(up). Also, there is a thumb stick lock setting that is buried in menu that locks the thumb stick until you press it in. It helps with keeping the display clear of menus under recoil.

Bearclaw - thanks for the information. I've been using the default quick command and like it! Clearly I need more playing time with it. I keep switching the thumb stick lock on/off and can't decide which I like best.
