I'm looking at this scope to put on top of a Browning AB3 that I'm getting in a couple weeks. Caliber TBD, I'm getting it for buying a table at an event. Possibility of trading it for something different also. We'll see.
Anyway, from the guys that have used this scope, what is the good and the bad? I know its not the HD glass but I'm not shooting 1000 yards at this point. I feel like this should be plenty to go as far as I'm currently capable and get the hang of using a MIL FFP scope.
I don't mean this to be a brand war. This scope is pushing the top of my budget as is so NF, Razor, etc are out of the question.
Thanks guys.

Last year SWFA had a big Black Friday sale. I would keep a look out and buy it if they run the sale again.

The good - built like a tank, tracks great, mil quad reticle is fantastic The bad - mediocre glass quality, not a ton of magnification if you're planning to shoot long range down the road
I swapped out a SWFA SS 16x42 for a 3-15x42 on my Savage 308 that was purely for target shooting. In all honestly, the 16x42 was just as capable for long range target shooting since I nearly always shot the 3-15x42 on max magnification. And it's much cheaper. I'd consider that as well if this isn't going to be a hunting rig at all.
My 3-15x42 didn't keep perfect POI when I adjusted magnification. It was close, but it would move around .5"-1" at 100 yards if I went from 10x to 15x. I never had 100% confidence that I could change the magnification and know exactly where the bullet was going. Of course I never had that problem with the 16x42 since it didn't have any zoom.
One last thing: if you are gonna get this scope, I'd consider the SFP version so the reticle is more usable at low magnification and you can get the SFP version cheaper on sample list. I think I paid $499 for mine in mint condition.
Summary: if you're looking for a scope with tactical knobs for short/medium range target shooting that could also double as a hunting scope and you're not going to shoot much past 300-500 yards, then this would be hard to beat for the $. If you don't need the knobs or want to shoot farther or don't need to use this for hunting at all, I would at least consider other options.
Good luck!

Thanks guys. That's the kind of info I was looking for.
JG, if/when I get this put together I'm going to have to come see you to learn how to use it.
