I bought my son a Henry Lever action 30-30 recently. Although he loves the thought of open sites, he wants to go ahead and put a scope on it.
This is the first lever-action that I've ever put a scope on. Any suggestions for a decent one? Also...fixed or variable?
Thanks!

If it was mine and I was going to scope it, I'd put a Leupold on it, either a 2-7 variable or a fixed 6x. Congrats on a sweet gun!

if it were mine, i'd have you kick me in the mouth for my blasphemous speech/thoughts of defacing a lever gun......... somethings just don't go together like a football bat..

Haha, this comment reminds me of those medieval religious floggers. Closer to God by flogging yourself?!??!? Anyways, on my late my model marlin 336 I have a Bushnell legend but the same 2-7x32. Love the combo. Totally agree in general that a small 2-7 power is the best thing.

Id probably go with a fixed 6X if he wanted to. Personally the quote below reflects my sentiments on scopes and lever guns. if it were mine, i'd have you kick me in the mouth for my blasphemous speech/thoughts of defacing a lever gun......... somethings just don't go together like a football bat..

You can get a Burris Fullfield II 2-7x35 for around $165.00. Had one for several years and it was excellent. Would still be using it but bought a Leupold VX-3 1.75-6x32 for it. Now that is a scope.
Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

My first scope was a 2X7 and it is still one of my favorite magnification ranges for hunting.

Another vote for the leupold 2-7 here. Or the leupold FX-II 4x33. I recently bought a couple of the FX series scopes one a 4x the other a 6x. I am very impressed with the glass. The 4x compact is 9 ounces and the 6x is 10. Most fixed power scopes are more durable than most variable power scopes. I bought these for the weight and durability to go on encore barrels.

The 2-7X range recommendations are excellent, or the 6X. I personally keep all of my scopes on 6X anyway...just looks the best for my eyes.
The Burris FFII 2-7x35 would be an excellent choice on the .30-30. The 35mm gives you a little more light.

A fixed 4 power is all you need.
