Wanting to test my hand at long range shooting and was thinking about picking up a Mil quad fixed 12X or 16X Super Chicken for some starter glass during the Black Friday sale. Have other combos for hunting so this will be a dedicated range/varmint gun.

I had a duplex fixed 10x on 220 Swift years ago and wanted bit more magnification. I'm leaning towards the 12x but wanted to get the opinion of those more experienced than myself...

Thanks in advance,
Txseadog

What max distance you shooting/training at?
Mirage can become an issue and is where a variable power/zoom can come in handy.

I have shot the 16x and it is very clear. I have a Vortex PST that I believe the 16x is very comparable to (minues the variable power). If you don't plan on hunting with it and need close shots, I would get the 16x for sure.

I stumbled across a good deal on a used 16x a few weeks ago and have played with it at the range a bit. Its a good scope for the $. Turrets feel nice.

Since you said "long range" I suggest 16X. Had you said 20X, I'd caution against it, for the mirage that will happen.
