Considering the 3-9x42 SS HD, or the classic 10x42, both mil Quad reticle. Are these the exact same reticle, or how do they differ from one another?

It depends.

If you can, post screen shots of the 2 scopes you're checking out.

The "Mil-Quad" reticle is the same in all scopes.

fyi - I had a 10x Mil-Quad and then they came out with a MOA Quad.

Other than Mil vs. MOA, the MOA Quad has numbers on the vertical axis for 10, 20, and 30 marks, where the Mil-Quad does not have any numbering.

If you are using holdovers, the number is very helpful in my opinion.

Mil Quad

MOA Quad - note the addition of numbers, which are very helpful.

How come some brands with Moa reticle have a floating x or dot in the middle and the mil reticle do not? See pics above.

I want a mil reticle with a floating center

Reason I'm asking is that the MQ reticle in the 3-9x appears to have the quads shaded in, appearing bolder than the MQ in the 10x where it appears that the quads are not shaded in.....right?

I don't believe SWFA makes a reticle with solid diamonds.

Johnny,

The SS 6X42 and 3-9X42reticles are solid (Filled in). Simply put, because these reticles are FFP, the subtensions when magnified are not magnified enough to represent the quadrilaterals large enough to see through them like on higher magnifications that we have available.

While the 3-9X has a slight variance, it is still the Mil-Quad reticle.

Thank you Skylar, makes sense. I'm wanting to experiment with on on a .243. Trying to decide on a fixed 10x or the 3-9x.

Why not try the 10X42 HD?

Skylar....another admittedly ignorant question.....Why the 10x HD over the 10x classic. I would assume they both have same reticle? Another guy rec'd the fixed 10x as well.

That's it? Wonder if it's worth twice the price? I've been around lots of "HD" glass and I'm not sure all of it is worth it.

Johnny, if that is the case, perhaps the standard model would suit you perfectly.

With all due respect, and you've earned it, the standard model isn't exactly like looking through a coke bottle. I had one for a while, and the glass was more than adequate for 99% of shooters.

I agree, that when I said what I said. They are awefully close to Leupold's VX-3, which is still very very good.
