Which would have the better glass? Prostaff 5 4.5-18x40 mil or Monarch 3 4-16x42 mil

I had a Monarch 4-16 for a time. It had good glass, though it did tend to flare badly when I looked toward the setting sun. I prefer Leupold and Vortex.

Monarch. Go look through both and see if you think the glass worth the extra money.

Nikon's MONARCH 3 has the better glass over Nikon's PROSTAFF 5-7 Series of scopes. As for flare looking into a setting sun I think almost any scope will give you that. I have used a sunshade when hunting KS and looking West during the sun set with no problems. In case you did not know, Nikon currently has a big PROMO going on right now for their longrange scope's, some of the best deals of the year can be had at all levels. If you do decide to choose a BDC reticle and need help, drop me a note. Make sure you check out THF Sponsor's before buying your scope to see if they can help you out.

Here's a pic of a MONARCH 3 4-16x4 BDC I was using for a Nikon shooting event.

Longtime hunter/shooter/fisherman who loves being outdoors. I used to hunt/compete with my son, but he's now stationed in Germany. Never enough time.

well I ordered the Monarch 3 4-16x42 mildot with side focus, think this should work really good on a field rifle.

Good glass, and a useful reticle, and you'll be business. up

Be great if Nikon would change the reticle to hashes, with a .5 mil smaller hash. Maybe in the future...

I don't use BDC type reticles but if I did it wouldn't be Nikon. I can see a hash much better than I can see the circle on Nikons.

Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.
