My wife bought me a Nikon Prostaff 5 20-60x82 spotting scope for Christmas. It will mainly be used to watch deer out of my office from 4-5 hundred yards out. Not saying I won't take it in a hunt but most of the time it will stay set up in my office. Anyone have any suggestions or experience with tripods? I've searched and read some reviews and am still lost on what would work best for this application. Thanks for your help.

I bought a Vanguard Alta 264AO ($200) at Cabela's last year and am very happy with it. I got a lot of good advice on here last year from folks who really know their stuff. For basic use in your office, you could probably go lower on price and be happy. I would suggest going to a camera store and try the movement in the head unit which is where I noticed the largest difference in smoothness.
I was wrong...on anything technical. Fitz............. is right, ya know............

If it's truly going to stay in your office just about anything will do.
The best in the field tripod is the Outdoorsman's tripod.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

The Slik brand may be the best bang for your buck.
