Im sure this has been discussed before at one time or another.
Has anybody ever collected acorns to dump out for the deer? We dont have any oak trees on our property but all the surrounding places do. My neighbor here at home has a big live oak that has dropped tons of acorns and ive picked up about half a 5 gallon bucket worth.
Am i wasting my time dealing with them or will it work? I will be saving them to dump the night of november 4th. Also, has anyone noticed the difference between deer eating green or brown acorns?

i've put some out and planted some too.
it didn't seen to affect the deer any
more than the few native chinkypin oaks
that's already there. they all got ate up
by the crows and squirrels. they
may have smelled different since there's
no native red oaks at the place.
it'd be worth trying to plant a few jfg

Deer prefer the "freshest" acorns to hit the ground.

To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.

If the surrounding places have same live oak (vs some other oak) acorns then it will work but not magically overnight. If you have a feeder set up then feed them there where deer are all ready coming but I would pick them up now and save them until after the acorns are gone from the neighboring area and then put them out. Plant some also sine you don't have any.

It gives my 3yo something to do to burn off energy since we have a big post oak in the back yard.

I sack up big burr oak acorns and put a bag out in my feed pen every time I go. I love the pics I get of the deer chomping on them like jawbreakers

Nothing works better at sweetening any hunting spot than White Oak acorns. They are much sweeter to deer than other acorns, which usually more bitter to their taste.

If your surrounded by any white oaks they will turn their nose up to live oak acorns, because they are very bitter compared to white oak acorns.

I probably rake up at least 25 gallons of acorns from my yard then take to the lease. The deer seem to like them just as much as the corn.
