Found a full 50 lb bag of seed oats in the barn that I never got around to planting last Fall.
Would it be worth using them this year?
Thanks.

Take about 15-20 seeds and put in layered damp paper towels. Keep it damp but not wet for a few days to allow the seeds to germinate. Count how many seeds germ out of the total you put in. That will give you and idea if the seeds are still good. The higher the percentage that sprout will show you how good and what rate you need to plant.

I'd just buy new and throw those in for good measure...What else would you do with them?

Mix with a bag of new oats and expect about half of the old ones to grow. Or throw a handful in a small pot and start watering today. Count your seeds before planting

We've used old oats before, usually upped the rate 30-50%
