I didn't have the opportunity to hunt growing up. I fish a lot but have only recently started hunting. Here is my first buck; a 5 pointer I took on Dec. 31 in Jefferson County, MS. I scouted a 500 acre patch for 3 days before finding the pattern and this was the only buck I saw. I spotted him on three separate occasions and knew where he liked to spend his time in the later part of the day, I shot him right before sunset after setting up three hours earlier. It was a 95 yard shot with him facing me directly (I took it as I think he finally realized I was there, I was afraid if I waited for a side shot he would bolt). He dropped where he stood, didn't move an inch. When I dressed him I saw I split his heart right down the middle. As you can see from my face I'm not much of a heart breaker but I guess I was on this occasion! The icing on the cake was my 13 year old daughter was with me in our improvised blind; she saw the whole thing and loved it. Question: how old do you think this buck is? We didn't have a scale, how much do you think he weighs? I had to get help to load him on to a 4 wheeler...

I'm new to hunting myself so not to sure on age, but congrats on your first deer! My first buck was last year and it's definitely a memory I'll never forget.

Nice shot, and that is a nice deer too. More impressive is that you were able to pick up a pattern and set up a blind, and settle in with your daughter for your first one. Congrats!

Thanks. I was out there every morning at 5:30am for couple hours then every evening for a couple hours plus driving around at night with a flashlight out the window looking for deer activity. It finally clicked what they were doing and it paid off.

Nice first deer...congrats.

Weight is hard to know...~140 lbs on the hoof I'm guessing.

Don't worry about the age. Good job on getting your first deer. Looks like a heavy animal,
