Do fawns stay with does through the rut? Reason I ask is I have 2 does that are still grouped with fawns. I have seen them on camera since they were born and they still had spots up until early november. Today my son and I were hunting and saw the adult does still with their offspring. Figured they would have left by now. Will the does eventually run them off and go into estrus?

What area of the state? Some areas the rut is just starting.

I'm in parker county. Springtown-Azle area. Just seems like it's kind of late for them to be together. Especially in this area of North texas. I'm new to all of this, but from what I've learned so far, just doesn't seem right.

My rut for most part is over in Goliad County. I still see a few fawns running back with the does again. A couple of the older buck fawns are running alone or with yearling bucks from time to time.

I still had a doe carrying a button and a doe fawn earlier this week. I passed on her and shot another bigger doe instead.

I have read, and it makes more sense, that doe will leave their near yearlings just before dropping new fawns in the late spring or early summer. Also, doe seen together are often those who grouped after being separated from their mothers.

The doe will abandon them for a day or so to go breed but will then pair back up. She'll run them off later in the spring when she gets the new set but many times will pair back up with her yearling doe after her new ones are up and going, while the yearling buck is 'relocated' to a different home area to limit the incest opportunities.

Ok makes sense. Thought they ran them off for good once the breeding season started. Thanks for the input.
