If it was on my place the buck would run like heck and coyote would just go about his day. If it were on my Mule Deer lease in West Texas the coyote would be running after the buck.

I thought you were gonna say the buck would run from the shot at the buck ranchman Coyotes always die in the moral to my stories since they spook the deer. The coyote I killed in Dec that spooked the deer that evening was found at daylight by the Cara Cara and vultures, they keep a close watch on my place.

I slung him over my shoulder and the doggone buzzards followed me the quarter mile back to the truck.

Maybe the yotes at my places have just been shrimps, but I see the deer hold their ground around them a lot. Have seen does chase them off.

If that first pic was on my place, that picture would have been taken shortly before I shot that yote.

I'll clear a feeder or road full of deer when a coyote shows up..if it has not cleared the deer already. Here a coyote will clear an area. In La Salle County I have had deer not pay any attention, run at the sight of a yote or chase a yote all on the same ranch.

I am impressed at how fast a buzzard can find a dead animal. We have used them and cara caras to help us find deer, they are as quick as a blood hound. You know that "wait thirty minutes after a shot to track an animal" idea, we have had times in South Texas that a deer would not have eyes and a backside if you waited that long. We have had to race them to a dead animal before.
I watched a group of does run a wild cat (not a bobcat) away from a feeder last week. The does really did not like that cat. For some reason the cat would try to get to the feeder and about four of the does what gather up and chase and stomp at the cat. They finally had enough of the cat and chased it about fifty yards into the woods. I was hoping to get to see a kitty stomping but the cat stayed clear. The bucks didn't give a rip about the cat.

i do know they never get past me if i see em while i am hunting they tend to really ruin hunts and the fawn crop in a big way i was already taking a few photos of the little buck when that one showed up it turned into buzzard vittles shortly after the photo we have an unwritten rule where we hunt DEATH TO ALL COYOTES big er small kill en all heck as much as i aint proud of it i even smacked a super big grey fox late one evening thinking it was young yote it ran out on the road and it died in a flash and i was a happy hunter till i walked up to drag it off that is

Cara Cara especially and Vultures I think can hear as good as they smell. In late season when shooting a lot of deer off a ranch I have had a bird on a deer in less than one minute many times. Really bad when you have a roost on the ranch. What amazes me is when you have a deer hit late and can't find it in the evening on a hunt and search till after dark. Get there the next morning at daylight and buzzards are sitting in a tree close by. I have seen them leaving/flying at daylight in from their roost towards a gut pile that was left after dark in spot where a deer was found.

Shot a few coyotes from my blind this year in Haskell County. Could have shot more but the ones that come in early get a pass during season.

I was sitting in the stand one morning watching a spike at the feeder. A coyote was low to ground and started moving towards him. I did not see him at first but the deer raised its head up and looked in that direction, glassed over and I could see him.
The spike ran towards the coyote and ran him off, it was really cool to watch.
