While the general season may be over, now's the time when deer benefit most from supplemental feed. If you fear daytime poachers, simply adjust your feeding times to nightly settings.

We are starting protein feeding this yr. I hope it pays off in a few years with the cost associated. Not cheap, especially on 18,000 + acres. Really hoping it brings our numbers up more than anything.

I feed year round and they go to if or when they need it, not when I think they do. Most places south of San Antonio are still seeing rutting activity and will for a bit longer.

Is it OK to just feed corn year round?

Based on what I have seen myself, corn is good, corn mixed with protein is better, and a heavy mix of protein is best.

it yes but it's really a waste of money. a lot of it will go to feeding the local vermin population. In many cases it will pile up under your feeder. It really doesn't have the nutritional value deer will crave durning the summer

Donate to TX Youth hunting program.... better to donate then to waste it in taxes

For some reason the bucks in South Texas will eat corn year round. Lot of mature bucks will eat under a corn feeder year round on some ranches. Not sure exactly why but they do. Might have to do with energy needs with the high protein diets at times.
I still would not feed it without a feed pen and would feed mainly after dark or before daylight.

The year round protein feeding routine paid of for us especially on smaller properties that you are trying hold deer in the vicinity of. We have been doing it for 4 yrs now so a lot of the deer we see have been raised going to my protein feeder so they tend to stick around except during the rut but then we get new deer cause the does don't leave. We don't hunt the protein feeder except for the DP traps for coons.

Year round protein feeding is most beneficial if you can afford it. Creates a much better body condition for the deer to withstand rutting activity. If year round is not affordable for you, then now is the best time to get it out there. Helps those rutting bucks recover and pregnant does going into fawning.

Think you can/Think you can't/Either way you're right

we topped off protein and corn. When the corn runs out, we won't fill again until September. The protein feeds all year. We tried corn all year, but figured out that all that ate it in the spring and early summer was hogs and coons. In the spring and summer, the deer prefer browse. Even in the fall, we're seeing that the deer eat some corn, but eat in the food plots first.
