My problem is due to health issues I have developed a cough...sometimes I can go for a couple hrs with no coughing but I never know...it is bad and loud. What are some suggestions to help me hunt even though this has happened...do they have suppressors that work or should I just bury my face in something???

Same here, just bury my face in my jacket sleeve. I have had deer at 20 yards while in my tree stand and been able to cough into my jacket and not spook them.

I have the same issues and I keep a bath towel in my stand and muffle a cough with that, works like a charm.

I have done some experimenting with does and Ive had them at less that 40 yds and once they start munching on corn i started talking out loud and they never heard me. I believe its partly due to the fact that its probably loud inside their head when they start crunching corn.

A small cheapo pillow is great to cough into. Nice to sit on as well sometimes.

To be determined

I remember a shot opportunity that was ruined one time by a coughing fit coming up. It was all I could do to let my draw down and cough. The buck ran off and I hate that I missed it. As I was trying to contain it my whole body was shaking and I knew that if I release I had a good chance of botching the shot. I still believe it was better to have passed on that buck than risk wounding it because I could not control myself.

If I'm in the ground blind and I get a sneeze coming on I usually press my finger firmly under my nose and it will stop the sneeze. With a cough I just use my sleeve the best I can. That works best when its cold and I'm actually wearing a coat or something bulky like that to use. A handkerchief works good to.

If hunting from a blind, I think we would all be quite surprised how quiet they are and how much noise one could make without spooking a deer, at times. In certain situations it is critical to be quiet as possible. But, as said above, once deer give in and start munching, just think how loud it is in your head when crunching corn nuts (if you ever have) and that is the same noise going on in a deer's head. Now if there is a hot doe with a buck in chase, you better believe they are in tune to all around them, last thing they want to get jumped by a predator right before the magic moment. It is all about circumstances, but for the most part, the blinds keep things pretty quiet.

A single muffled cough every now and then won't bother the deer.

Cows cough and hogs, and deer cough so it's not a strange sound to them. If the deer are right on top of you then it may send them off into orbit, but most of the time they won't even look up or look your way.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

A pillow does work well.. As far as sitting on it. After a BIG bowl of chili you can be rest assured the pillow I sit on will not be getting anywhere near my face.

i know you mentioned your was sue to a illness so this little tio might not help you at all but then again it won't hurt to try it? My throat especially when it's cold gets so dry and the minute you get into your stand and start trying to be quiet is when it starts feeling dry and causing you to go into a coughing fit. You try to swollow to moisten your throat but it's not enough. So I started chewing gum the whole time I am hunting and you are constantly swollowing so that keeps your throat moistened and prevents the coughing fits most of the time! But if that won't help with your illness I really think like the others that the noise doesn't bother them as long as they don't see motion or movement to put with the noise...If they can't see you the noise won't bother them but put the two together and they might spook! And even if they do spook most will come back out if given time...

Coughing in the stand has never been a problem for me. Snoring in the stand has been more of a hindrance.

Let me break some stick shooters hearts...We cull shoot/not hunting..set in the blinds w/the back door open and the radio
on, ect..listen to the ball game..Go potty out off the porch ect.

Usually see about 15 to 20 deer min..every time..29 feeders & stands..doe are the trophy..and the buck pretty much ignore us..
Unless you are intentionally trying to make a lot of noise..don't
worry about it..just make sure your feeders are not real close to
the blinds..100-150yds is fine..not 40 to 80 yds as some have them..Give the a little space and cut wide/long Senderos..DD

Deer didn't seem to bother me coughing in the stand last year. Of course my feeders are setup about 100YDS away. I wen't through alot of cough drops last season. Seems like I had a dry cough the whole dang season. What the deer did seem to mind was my son falling asleep and jerk kicking the side of the stand. That sent them running a couple of times.

As kids my dad would just about smother me and my brothers face in the arm of his jacket if we dared cough in the blind! Pretty funny now looking back on it!

From a gun blind a cough will do no damage...but while bow hunting you might want a cough suppressor. I think for the most part coughing is harmless. I've heard a cow coughing and it sounded exactly like a human cough.
