Reading Dan's article got me wondering what everyone else has good luck with when shooting deer.

I've never reloaded before so I buy my ammo from the store. I've always had good luck with winchester grey box ammo and remington core-lok. My winchester mod 70 7 mag loves the grey box ammo.

In my rem 700 308 VTR I shoot noslet accubond 165 gr. That stuff is amazing. Always a pass through and great blood trail but doesn't just destroy the meat. I've recovered one bullet and it had mushroomed amazingly. This was from a deer I shot in 16' facing me head on. Straight to the chest and recovered the bullet from the rear hind quarter between the skin and muscle.

So what do y'all like and shoot?

Ditto.

.243 I also use Remington Core-Lokt

For .223, I really like Hornady 75 grain BTHP.

I have the exact same gun but shoot Winchester Matchking HPBT 168 gr. bullets. I did not choose this bullet. I was given a box of it from my SIL as a gift. He said that he bought it because the cheap stuff was all sold out. I was short on ammo so I gave it a try on a 300 pound stag hind. She died quick.
I have killed multiple red stag (including a 490 lb bull), dybowski sika, fallow, axis, wt, oryx, gemsbok, etc. They never go far, if at all.
There is a lot of good 308 ammo out there that will do the job.

Depends on the cartridge, but usually if the velocity is over 2900 fps...Accubonds or Partitions. Under 2900, Sierra Gamekings, Nosler Ballistic tips, or Hornady Interlocks. Federal fusions work really well also

Kinda the same deal here. I got the gun off of a guy that had been shooting them. So I just stuck with them. Been very happy with them too.

We piled up deer with .270 Core-lokt for years, then did the same in .243. At some point, they changed the Core-lokt, and in .243, they just weren’t the same. In larger calibers I suspect they’re okay, but I just can’t trust them in 6 mm.

Might want to try them again. I have taken many coyotes, hogs and deer with them over the last few years. Of coarse with a 6mm not a .243, with factory loads I prefer the 6mm over the .243.

150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips in 308 Win has worked great the last two years on mule deer, whitetail, hog and javelina. Closest shot was 10 yards on a Javelina & longest was 150 on the Mule Deer.

I bought a case of 243 rem core lok about 6 years ago. They worked good in the gun so I took advice from here and bought a lot. Lol. Haven't had to but any in a long time. They seem to have done very well but I might have bought them before they changed.

Kinda the same rules I follow.

In my .270 hornady interlocks work great.

They sure do, I shoot them in my 270 using 130 grain and I'm shooting about 1"moa at 200 yards. I usually shoot handloads but these are so good I'll stick with the SST.
