this is one of my feeders out SW from Ozona ... I have never seen hogs on this property but know they aren't far away. First picture is from last fall/winter during hunting season. The second picture the landowner took in early May. What could have caused the legs to be so far pushed out to bend the side of the barrel without turning the feeder over? bottom of feeder was about 6'6" off the ground, now about 3-4'...

Either weak brackets on your barrel that gave way to the weight or you have hogs

Probably cows. They will lean on the feeder legs, and tear up a feeder in no time. The anchor points on the barrel bent in. And the legs are not T-posted down either. When I run a feeder like this, I ALWAYS T-post the legs to the ground so they will not move. It helps to better prevent them from moving. I run a heavy duty tripod with the feeder barrel hanging below on a winch. These are more sturdy and get higher in the air to avoid animals getting to them.

wasn't cows I don't think, there is a pen around the area using field fencing 4+ foot tall, the bottom has gaps under it when smaller animals have gone under, but don't think a cow would. Coons have been a real issue until I put the PVC pipe back in January and all looked good late March when I was last out there to fill feeders. This feeder has been in place for 5+ years without issues until last Aug. when I am sure hogs came thru, the entire pen area was rooted a foot deep and feeder was moved about 4-5 feet to one side, but no damage. I normally do use t-posts to anchor the legs down when there are cattle around and no pen. as you might can tell from the below picture, the something pushed hard enough outward on the legs, or leaned inward at the top of the legs to bend the side of the barrel in on all 3 sides. what about a bear?

That's pigs no doubt.. they figure out they can rub against the poles to get corn out and eventually the legs sink in mud or give... happens a lot here... the coons then pair up to open and destroy a feeder

I had the exact feeder do the same thing last week from pigs at my lease. My other feeders have longer metal supports on the barrel so they can't bend as easy.

ok, guess it's time for hog panels out there ... and here I was just tickled peachy that the PVC was keeping the coons off ... but as you can see with the legs spread out that far, it just became a jungle gym for coons to swing and play on. thanks!

Would seem to me that whatever would have continued to push on the legs until the barrel fell to the ground. While not likely, a cow could have jumped in and out of the pen.
Mighty frustrating.

I fixed a problem similar to this by mounting the feeder leg slots at the upper half of the feeder.... it has lasted through 20 years of leases from Del Rio to Houston Co. even the cows cant tip it...

I hunted in Comstock in 2010 through 2013. We had a black bear on game camera the last year. He completely destroyed one of our feeders. Shredded the wire mesh coon guard! My brother and I saw a mountain lion cross the road coming in to town late one afternoon. Large cat with a long tail. I asked him if he saw it and he said yes. I said you notice anything strange and he said 'yea, it was to large to be a bob cat and had a long tail!' I said I saw the same thing and wanted to make sure I wasn't hallucinating! A year later I hunted on a lease in Juno 30 miles northeast from Comstock and the guys on that lease killed a mountain lion while predator calling.

I was wondering about a bear because that coon cage was wired up really good with pliers, found it odd that a coon could tears up the cage that bad ...
anyway, new game camera's bought, a new feeder with heavier legs & braces along with t-posting legs and hog or cattle panels on my next trip out... at least I'll know what is trying to tear it up next time. I pulled my cameras back in January as I needed to upgrade a couple out there.

No base on the feeder legs, looks like you had some moisture, all three legs about equidistant. I bet you filled that can to the brim. Suspect this could be just plain old laws of physics.

Truth is, that is one of the worst feeder pens I've seen built. Cows in my opinion. Sorry to be harsh but you need panels not wire.

Going with cows as well, that wire didn't keep them out. Had that happen more than once.

Stake the legs like this and you won't have that problem - even with a cheap plastic feeder barrel like this one. After you drive the t-posts in the ground, tie the legs in at least 2 places near ground at at top of post. Three ties is even better. Pens are a waste of time..if they want in, they will get in and is just another fence for the deer to get tangled in. I have cattle and pigs on my ranch and this is the only way the feeders will survive both. The cattle still rub on the legs and may shake out a little corn but won't knock the feeder down. Also notice the solar fence charger that knocks the coons and squirrels right off!

I like this design, extra strength to legs and may be to far from leg to timer for a coon to pull corn out. .
