Anyone hunt there? What's your experience?

Can be great - can be tough. East TX is pretty place specific. The deer are in Rusk county. It's not easy hunting. Folks familiar/used to east TX hunting love it. A lot of folks who come in from places where they're used to a lot of clockwork deer movement and more open terrain don't.

I grew up near eastern Rusk county. It was good back in the day and my friends/family prove it's still good.

I have a 100 acre lease in that area off 1798 and N of 259 that I keep to get out of in-laws house during the holidays. Some really nice deer on cameras and a few hogs. Hunting can be tough but also very rewarding if you are patient. I like the rut & scrape hunting on the ridges in the hardwoods. Have taken 3 nice 10 pointers on different Thanksgiving mornings and several respectable 8s over the years.
