Hope everyone is enjoying a successful season so far. I am heading up to a lease this weekend with my dad and brother in the Llano/Castell area. Does anyone know how the condition are and is anyone seeing any action or deer hitting the feeders?
The forecast is calling for lots of rain this weekend, but I am trying to stay positive. I have heard stories of people killing deer in the rain, and seeing nothing in the rain. Hoping for the best.
Thanks in advance!

Man, it's been tough hunting over there. Everything is so green, and there are so many acorns still, the deer aren't coming to the feeders very reliably at all. There is two or three days worth of corn on the ground in places, and at some spots we are now growing corn, lol. However, the rut has been in full swing for about two weeks, so the deer are moving and we had a bit of luck rattling.
I'll be out there this weekend too, hoping the rain will keep things moving. If it rains hard, they will move as soon as it quits. If it is just a drizzle that's my favorite stalking weather. Good luck!

Agree with Triplesnake. I'm off of 2323 in Llano and we have lots of corn piling up at the feeders. Bucks are moving good though, just not staying around long. I'm going take this weekend off I think with the forecast and hit it again later.

Yeah we will hunt Friday - Sunday. I am not worried about a little drizzle, it the hard storms that will kill a hunt. Hoping for the best weather wise. Maybe we will get lucky

Worst case scenario you can go to Coopers BBQ. Good luck hunting

I second the Cooper's BBQ idea. My favorite BBQ anywhere in the state.

Lots of good deer coming out of there this year. No issues with corn piling up

I currently hunt in Llano Co and I would love to continue this tradition for another decade. Does anyone know where to start looking for any annual hunting leases in the area? Nothing pressing, looking to start new chapter next year. Many thanks.

I hunt between Llano and Castell. Action has been steady for us, been a good year so far. But, we don't primarily hunt feeders. Saturday morning, Nov 19th it was 30 degrees and action was off the chain, deer really moving. Killed a good cull and my buddy took a nice Trophy 8.
Acorns are just about all gone in our area. Hunt the travel corridors, pinch points. Use throw corn to stop them. Don't let the rain dissuade you. As said above, they may slow down in a driving rain but will be right back at it when it stops. And, I've found that good rainy weather can really crank up the mid day action.
Good luck!

Our place is near lone grove. Been slowest season in past 10 years. Pigs still there but deer really slow
