Going to look at place Sunday between Robert Lee and Sterling City off 158. Anyone hunt there? If so hows the whitetail hunting guy says there could be a chance of muledeer and javelina? Also are there a lot of pigs?? Any pictures would be appreciated!!

Should be good numbers around Robert Lee area. I would say 120" deer is upper end with some occasionally better than that. Lots of hogs in Coke county near Blackwell so I would assume the same for that area.

Agree with above. I have a buddy that has place in that area and no hogs at all, so they may be hit or miss.

First year hunting in Coke. Deer numbers have been ok. As for javelina and hogs, we've had one of each on our cams. We've got turkeys on cams in good numbers but haven't seen them while I've been hunting. The only predator is a fox that was on the cam back in July. I killed a 130 class buck that was the best looking buck on the cams. We've got two on cams that'd probably score better. There have been at least 6 different tens on my game cams this year.

Hope this helps.

Mule deer are extremely rare in Coke. I have spent more time hunting Coke than probably any other county in Texas and have never seen one on camera or in person.

I hunted it some years ago on the 100,000 acre March Ranch. Back then there was no leases on the ranch. I hunted it because my great-uncle was the foreman of the ranch. Bucks frequently topped 130 to 140 in those years. Buck:Doe ratio was pretty tight. We didn't see hogs at all, but javi's were there in limited numbers. Turkey along Grape Creek and it's tributaries were numerous. Bobcat, raccoons, ringtails, coyotes were plentiful, with occasional mountain lion and even a one-time sighting of a black bear.

We didn't hunt from stands or over feeders. Just spot/stalk. My largest was a heavy horned 10 point that scored 136 B&C.

If properly managed the area has potential.

We hunt 10 miles west of Robert Lee. 3 miles south on Green Mountain Road off of SH 158. We have good numbers of whitetail. I probably average seeing between 5 and 10 deer each trip to the blind. They have good body size, but I would think 130" is the best we ever will see. No mule deer. Few hogs and javelina. Pretty good number of turkey and quail. Millions of coons and rattlers. Few fox and bobcat, never have seen a coyote or mountain lion. We have hunted this section I guess for 13 years now. There is always enough activity in the woods to keep you interested!

Sounds pretty close to where I'm going to be looking! Hows the dove in the area?

We only have one stock tank and last year, dove were hitting that pretty hard. But this year, there weren't nearly as many.
