It will be my first year hunting in Brown county near Zephyr. When does the rut usually start here?

Typically around the 13th-17th, but pre-rut is already starting. I wouldn't miss the first two rifle weekends, if I were you. FYI I hunt 25 miles from you.

We are just east of you in Priddy. Bucks are already chasing really good. Just like clockwork, the peak will be 11/1 through 11/10 or so. But, this area has a lot of doe so while it does peak then, the drop off curve is gradual.

I am west of you, still in Brown County, but I have seen no sign of rut activity yet. Cameras are full of doe photos, and some young bucks, but not a single photo of a shooter. Last year I didn't really see too much activity until the 2nd week of rifle season.

In southern Mills County this weekend I saw 6-7 buck-doe chases, and two mature bucks locked up with does. One doe was in an oak deadfall and the buck let me get within 100 yards without running off, before she finally had enough and off they went.
This weekend (12-13) could be hot in most of that area. Good luck!
