No, didn't shoot him, but damn near did. In the scope, finger on the trigger thinking he was a 4 on the driver ide and a spike on the passengers side, each time he liked up, he looked like a 5'r. Waiting for a broadside shot, he turned and I saw a long point that hadn't seen. No forks or anything and it looked like the second point came out of the pedicle and not off the "spike", could have been another small point in the same fashion.

Kind of caught me by surprise, so I watched him chase off a doe, kind of feel he would still be a "spike" on that side? Either way, odd to say the least.

Drew this photo out since I couldn't get a photo (flip phone, no zoom) just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.. In AR county as well.

Thoughts??

Got that right, but if he doesn't count as a spike on that side......................

Western, I'd have to see an actual picture to know if that brow and weird tine are connected off a beam or just both bone points coming out from base of skull. If that is the case, I think you have unbranched points.

DQ, that is what I was thinking as well, didn't have enough time to look, after he turned and I saw the additional point. 1st impression was separate points. Hopefully I can see him again and have enough time to make sure. I feel if they are all seperate, he still is a spike and he needs to go.

I don't know, but Jack Unruh might as well retire now that your skills are known.

Injury will throw some weird stuff...wouldn't worry about him if you have to convince yourself that he might be a spike.

Ears make me think he's got a little Holstein in him. grin

Looks like he would be close to 13" by the drawing anyway.

by that drawing i would say he injured his pedacle and should be judged by his good side before culling. My 2 cents

Hey, that is my flip phone photo, if I had a smart phone, the drawing would have been in color grin

The question is , if it has multiple points coming from the ped, with no "branched antler", is it still considered a spike, never ran into this before. BTW, physically he looked in great shape, but only had a short time to look him over.

Definitely would be 13" if measured across using the horizontal beam, probably 15", I 1st thought it was a stick stuck in his antler.

I thought about that as well, but we have a consistent problem here with real weak passengers side antler.

Back story I have shared before. When we bought this place in 2004, the new neighbor (also new hunter) said he saw 5 does and one huge spike walk through his back yard, everyone had a tag in the ear. He didn't know what to do, so he called the GW. The GW said they probably escaped a pen, but wasn't aware of any HF near us.
If I can find some photos, I will post them and you can see most carry a really weak passengers side.

I would wait to see if the injury is permanent by seeing what he looks like next year.

Doubt it's genetic (most likely injury based)and also doubt he's legal in an AR county.

That actually sounds like advice the real Kenny Powers would give.

I believe it. I could tell that was a rough sketch. Not bad at all. That poor buck may feel different about it, though. :grin;

Looks like early pedicile damage to me. I'd lean towards letting him walk and seeing what he does next year.

Maybe he got hit with a piece of high-speed corn while he was still in velvet Dennis grin
