The most valuable person in deer camp isn't the guy who can shoot the nail out of a hanging target at 200 yards. In fact, he or she may be someone who never fires a shot during the entire season. No, the most valuable person in deer camp is the man, or women, who can skin and clean a deer like no one else. When you watch them work, they handle a knife much like a surgeon, with every cut and slice being purposeful and clear. In the time that it takes a wannabe to clean a single deer, they have two in the ice chest and can be found enjoying a shot of whiskey by the fire.

Same goes for the person who can fillet a 29" redfish in under a minute.

If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.

Agreed! I can get the job done, but my brother Eric is twice as fast as me.

To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.

The most valuable person at our deer camp is the one that has fried eggs, bacon and biscuits on the stove when you get in from the morning hunt.

IMO, that person is a "nice to have", while the other is a "need to have."

The person who brings a nice bottle of whiskey to enjoy around the fire is very nice to have as well.

Thanks,
Olen

I can clean my own deer, I can't cook breakfast in the deer stand.

Now this was my thoughts! I will give the skinner the second place spot but the cook comes first in my book.

I got the big 4wd tractor, a bottle of Gentleman Jack, and I can cook like a house afire, but I am certainly not the most valuable guy in camp. Someday maybe, but my skill set needs ammending.

You can hire someone to clean and skin. Try hiring someone to cook nowadays. Dang near impossible to hire a cook.

I can cook, and clean my deer, but how about a good story teller. One that can tell the same story around the fire 10 times and its just as good if not better than the first.

Another vote for the cook. It is nice to have someone help skin a deer, but there is nothing nicer than when you are done skinning it to have a hot meal ready for you.

Can't would be the incorrect word as I'm sure most can easily do both. I was just saying it is very nice to come back to a warm breakfast when you are done hunting.

Notice this discussion includes no mention of guns or ammo, or a strong knowledge of either.
