So I saw this at Academy Sports today.. It says Scent Control on the Bottle, but it says to spray the branches around your stand and in your area to replace your scent with the scent of acorns.. Wouldn't this be considered Baiting, and then be illegal on Public Land?

If not it may not be a bad idea since I am setting up in an area with oaks for opening weekend of Bow Season...

Thoughts?

Not baiting since the deer can't eat it, might work as a cover scent but thats all!

Well if that's the case then you open a whole different grey line.. The acorn syrup that you pour on the ground for attractant is not "eaten" either but is also not legal. Or am I incorrect on this?

Don't the deer lick the syrup though?

I'd say if you pouring a syrup on the ground that's baiting, this is a COVER SCENT used to cover your scent not attract deer. Just my thinking.

I would think the syrup they would lick it like a mineral rock. So baiting is consuming.

Word for word from the 2015 Public Hunting Lands booklet.

"Baiting — The placement of minerals, vegetative materials, or other food substances used as an attractant for wildlife."

I don't think Cover Scent falls into this category. I believe you are good.

Ok. Always good to get others thoughts. The directions say do not spray it on clothes but around your hunting area ect.

But you are not spraying it for them to lick or consume just the smell of acorns vs a hunter.

If I am hunting imbued an oak tree I don't see the harm. But I will double up with my normal scent control.

I am thinking it is a waste of money overall.. One becuase you cannot spray it on your clothes, and does not WORK as a scent cover, and two to spray it around the area to get that "acorn scent" is pointless as it is not enough to attract deer into the area like bait.

I am thinking another gimmick that is trying to ge tmy money.

Here's the deal, you might stand a .5% chance this stuff would be .5% affective IF you were hunting an area where acorns where a staple to deer and there wasn't much of an acorn crop that particular year. From what I understand, acorns are a bumper crop this year so do you really think a deer will forgo the real thing for a chemical attractant or cover scent and if you have done any research on deer and their olfactory senses, you would understand that they can easily detect the slightest smidgeon of human odor even under the most extreme circumstances and any product these shysters in the hunting industry attempt to sell us that cover or eliminate scent are only meant to fund their hunting trips that they rub in your face weekly on their hunting shows while telling you how great of hunters they are, how fortunate they are to be married to such wonderful understanding women and of course now in addition to having to agonizingly watch them kill deer and tell us how great their products are, we have to watch as they interact with their families and tell us stories about all the sacrifices they make to do what they do, watch little Johnny play baseball and little Jennie sing in the church choir, etc... So, go ahead, buy it and let us know how big the deer is you killed as a result of this wonderful acorn cover scent.
