Looking at a deer lease south of Abilene near Lawn. Anybody on here hunt in this area? Any feedback would be appreciated. Did not notice many feeders/shoot houses in the area. Have a nice piece of property that my son and can get but don't know anything about this area.

I used to hunt south of Merkel, in the canyon. Lots of deer and hogs. And the dove hunting was fantastic.

Lots of deer. Not too many big ones, but a few.

Thanks for the feedback. Saw lots of quail, tons of dove, few turkeys and zero deer.

Don't let that fool you. The deer are there.

My last 4 trips to my lease I have seen one doe. This isn't the time of year to see many in the daytime.

My place is around 40 miles south east of Abilene. Good deer populations. All going to depend on neighbors and terrain.

It all depends on the area and the area's hunters.

I grew up and have hunted near the Winters-Ballinger area all my life...I have shot a few good ones 150-155s...but most are in the 130s to 140s if managed correctly. Deer are there depending on brush cover and aval food...my mom and dad live on a little over 500 ac...in 35 years I have seen 4 deer on that place..across the road we have another 550 ac, and we have taken a number of deer of that place...one bigger than 150...so depends...

The deer are out there. Those are correct on saying they're in hiding most the day unless you spook them up but good chance if you were walking property. They moved before you came upon them. To hot during day. We are just a little farther south. Good quail numbers this year on our place.
Good luck to ya
