Just tilled about 1/4 acre of a food plot on our lease in Hardin county. Should we do more? What is the best seed for that area?

Yes... as much as possible... at least around 3-4 acres would be nice but I understand this isn't always possible

Not sure about the seed for that area... always used cow peas and clover here

make it as big as you can afford. peas and clover always as good as anything for warm weather plots.

How many deer will be using the plot? 1 acre can take care of 3-5 deer.

I like peas and my deer would eat the heck out of Mellons or any thing young and tender .

one year we had a pumpkin carving contest for a Sunday School Halloween party and I kept all the seeds from a couple dozen pumpkins. I let them dry until spring time, then tossed them out into a late spring food plot area that I had just disc. they started growing like wildfire and the deer went nuts on the blooms.

I'm leaving my fall food plot standing. I planted 5 acres of oats, peas, wheat and other stuff. This is the first time in 5 years it is all started to seed. It's also been the wetest year in 10 years I've seen in our area. I'm going to let it ride and see what dove season looks like.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.
