I went down to Mills County outside Goldthwaite this weekend to hunt with my cousin on his lease. They have a big 3500 acre tract that they have near 20 stands and feeders on. We hunted Friday night, Saturday morning and night, and Sunday morning. Usually they bring in 20+ deer almost every weekend with 12+ lessees. The whole weekend, there was only 1 doe killed. No bucks. Out of the 12+ lessees, only 2 have their trophies yet. And they are far from trophies.
The head lessees that run it said this is the worst season they have on the books ever. They blamed it on the copious amounts of rain they have received and too many acorns on the ground. Almost every feeder we looked at had corn under it from days and days of spinning and nothing eating it. Hard times for feeder hunters.
I suggested spot and stalk. They laughed at me while opening another beer.

Yes this season you are going to have to get out of the blind and pattern the bucks. Set out TCs in different locations to locate where the bucks are.

Well #1, they missed the rut by more than 2 weeks, that can't help. #2, If all they're doing is hunting feeders, then they aren't much hunters, imo.
I've hunted Goldthwaite/Mills County for 30+ years and this was a great year for us.
We did let a friend's grandson come try to take his first buck on our place this year. They hung a feeder in an area that we normally hand corn. I hand corned the blind one day and for giggles shook the feeder and spilled about 2 pounds out of it. Next morning every bit of hand corn I put out was gone but nothing had touched the pile under the feeder.

Our lease is just south of the Brown County line. Although I have not been back in a couple of weeks I was seeing really nice deer.

They didn't miss the rut. I was just visiting last weekend. They have been hunting every weekend since opening day.
I agree totally about them not being much hunters. They like to sit in their nice warm stand with beer in hand.
I just thought it weird that the bucks and older does weren't interested in corn at all. Strange year.

Shooting 20 plus deer almost every weekend?? Well that could be an issue. Or am I reading your post wrong?
