This year I've been doing alot of spot/stalk hunts in the mountains around Iraan. Granted these ain't the Colorado Rockies but the amount of loose rocks and brush makes it difficult to get around.

So I went for a walk yesterday on top (1000ft up or so) alone. Really was looking for mulies but ran across a whitetail doe and single buck. Quickly I determined the buck was a shooter so I quietly put myself in a position for a shot. As I setup the buck walked behind a large cedar for a second. I placed my crosshairs up where I thought the buck would emerge and sure enough...BOOM! The buck fell, got up, and went over the next ridge. To my astonishment another 2 bucks also ran out from the same cedar and one was the Monster I was after! What buck did I shoot?

I ended up tracking my buck almost 200yds and when I finally came upon him I was abit disappointed. Not only until then I also realized I had to drag this SOB another 600yds to my truck and down the damn mountain! Let me tell ya, not fun. Not fun at all.

Lesson learned. If you're gonna pull the trigger up in the mountains alone...make sure he's damn well worth it!

BTW...anyone take a gander at his age? I'm thinking 3.5-4.5.

That is why I always double check before I pull the trigger, I want to know what I shoot is what I want.

Looks 2.5-3.5 IMO in those photos. Your darn right about toting one out of the hills!, I will quarter if I can before dragging when alone.

Congrats on a buck too, big one will be there next year up
