Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I think the ar have had a positive effect on deer where I hunt. I have always supported the ar. I know they are not perfect but I support them.

I feel the same way, at least in areas I have hunted that get hammered traditionally.

Umm...mutations from generations of inbreeding. They've been there all along.

The AR isnt our big problem, in fact several of us land owners are talking about having a self imposed ban on our properties of bucks for a year or 2. Our problem is by our counts and estimates we are at about 1 buck per 20 does if not 1:30. We really need more than 4 day thanksgiving weekend for doe season!!!

I still disagree with AR's!!! They do nothing for the genetics of bucks but they will protect younger bucks!!! Those of you that are saying that you are seeing better bucks are probably in an area where the genetics is there for wider racks that is why I think that AR's should not be used as a "blanket" rule!!! I hunted a lease in Tyler County for 5/6yrs and all I saw were narrow racked bucks, (even mature ones), and think that in some cases just reducing the bag limit to 1 buck/1 doe would have accomplished the same thing in saving younger bucks!!! Tyler County was a 2 buck/2 doe County prior to AR's!!!

Here is some examples from Tyler:

Papa

son:

another that will probably never be shot"

I changed lease to Hardin County about 60mi as the crow flies from the other lease and the genetics are for wider bucks!!! so go figure!!! I don't think AR's are necessary when you can accomplish the same thing with bag limits!!!

Unfortunately my lookout is legal:

AR's are antler restrictions where the inside spread needs to be outside the ears of an alert buck (13 in)and the other buck has to have one unbranched antler!!! Please read Outdoor Guide!!!

These are legal:
Outside spread greater than 13in

At least one unbranched antler

These are not legal:

Inside spread less than 13in

Or inside the ears of a mature buck or well outside the ears of a yearling or a yearling spike. ARs are so awesome I could've filled every deer tag I was allowed for the county opening morning, yet didn't pull the trigger the first time. Thanks ARs without you I'd be tagless.

Don't have an AR. I have a Mathews Z-7. Got an East Texas 10.

I know!!! I was just trying to make a point of why I dislike AR's!!! They say they want to save young bucks and then they say the 2nd buck has to be a spike, (hence my young "lookout")!!!
