The Wife came back from her blind on Sat evening and she was absolutely incoherent, just babbling like a little kid. I asked her what was wrong so she tells me about this buck that came in to the feeder. It's a young 9 point that is just not quite legal. She asks me what's wrong with me I'm still shaking. I couldn't hold the bino's still, my heart was racing etc. I started laughing "Babe you have your first case of buck fever" She told me she looked at the deer with my (now hers) binoculars, then through her scope and she said she just kept going back and forth trying to tell if it as legal deer. She said she thought it was one we had looked at on camera but wasn't quite sure and I had told her it was not quite there yet. She was so frustrated because that was the first decent buck she has seen from the stand but she couldn't get a good enough look at it. I'm still laughing when she tells me all I could here was you in the back of my head going "why did you shoot that buck he's not legal". I told her I was glad she got the message, then started laughing again. It was great to see her so excited.

I get excited seeing deer and if I didn't I would no longer hunt!!! The first day of bow season, I was shaking a little because I had deer coming out every where from 5 -15yds from me!!! I calmed down but was still excited!!!

I remember reading somewhere that a hunter's heart beat can equal that of a marathon runner upon seeing a deer.

IMO, something can help tremendously in overcoming buck fever is to spend time in the woods watching deer during the off season, perhaps while hog hunting. Dry hunting a stand before the season opener can also help overcome it.

I love that sensation of seeing a deer. It keeps me going back to the woods.

I'm always cool, calm, & collected until after the shot is fired and the deer goes down......

I agree with TRex, STex, and HnF...the day I fail to get excited before or after a kill, I will hang it up

The sheer joy of seeing my boys jump at every squirrel scurrying through the woods is priceless as well up
