Posted earlier this year that I bought a brand new Honda Foreman. It was a 2016 model that they had trouble selling due to the way it was outfitted; straight axle, manual shift with electric power steering. My battery went dead, so I took it in since it was under warranty. At the dealership, it cranked, barely. I got a call from the dealership and they told me they suspected that there was a problem with the starter and that is what pulled the battery down. I did recall that the time before I last started it, the starter did make some noise, didn't sound exactly right but that was it, it still cranked. They confirmed, the problem was the starter so I'm getting new battery, new starter, labor etc. all under warranty. It was started almost daily at the dealership to move it from inside to outside for the 2+ years they had it so it did get some use. I'm glad to be getting a new battery and starter that should last a while, but a little disappointed that it went out and left me on foot. Anyone else had starter problems on Honda products? Other than that it's great. I'm considering adding the recoil starter.

Replaced one on a 2003 Honda accord for my brother. It had 180,000 miles on it. Was a quick easy change.

I’ve had to replace the starters on two Honda Rancher 420s. One is an 07 the other a 13. Both have saw lots of hours checking cows and horses. The 07 has 4800 miles on it. The starter is th only thing on either bike to ever have issues.
Edit: I took apart both starters to check the brushes. In both cases the magnets had came unglued from the outer wall and were crushed to pieces.

In 10 years of owning 2 2004 Foreman’s, I only had to replace tires and clean the carbs, and a few batteries. One made it 2200 Miles in those 10 years and the other saw a very hard 18,000 miles

That's what I expected. I'm surprised and hope this is an anomaly. I'm happy with it, should have got one a long time ago. Warranty for the win!!
The batteries on these are pretty small and it doesn't take a lot of draw to pull the battery down. I suspect it is something that was added on like a winch or something else electronic that was wired directly to the battery and not thru the switch. Some winches with wireless remote draw power even when not in use. Stereo units draw power continuously to maintain their channel memory.
Was that the original battery from 2016?

Yes, original battery from 2016. It was started almost daily moving it around and to display outside. I had actually hoped the battery crapped out before my warranty went out, so I ain't complaining about the battery. There's nothing wired in, no accessories, never used 12 volt plug. Just surprised that starter was bad. IDo like the warranty, nothing out of pocket, just a hassle. Warranty for the win!!

If it's original battery, it's not surprising. Just starting it long enough to move in and out for first few years of life probably didn't do the battery any good either.
The small batteries are almost maintenance points like changing oil, filters, etc. but always seem to die when you are the longest distance from the house, too!

Worked out great. New starter, battery. Dealer noticed some of the camo was flaking off, contacted Honda and they warrantied all new fenders. Looks great. Sitting out in the sun while on display for a couple of years must have been hard on it. I keep it covered when not in use, oughta' hold up for a while.
