What say ye?

I have little experience with UTV's but after borrowing one this week to use at work I think I may have to get one.

Speed is not a issue. This will be a work rig. Primarily in field for soil sampling and a irrigation vehicle. It needs to be 4 seater and have a large bed. Kinda was between the John Deere 825i and ranger but saw that polaris has a ranger diesel and that appeals to me.

Fuel price is no issue as well as it would be a farm used eig it would be easier and cheaper to run red than gas so that makes me think diesel.

Also on soul sampling the thing will idle for long periods of time. Friday we soil sampled for the entire day and it pretty much never was turned off. It's easier to jump out and leave it running for a few minutes than constantly turning it off and on

The diesel utvs are very nice, but pricey. If money not an obstacle, the Gator is an awesome machine.

I have a Kubota diesel. Going on 6 years old and about 3000 hours on it. Could not be happier.

Had the pleasure spending about 100 miles in a diesel Mahindra crew. Highly impressed and wasn't very loud.

I am running a new Mule diesel and like it. Very comfortable and fuel mileage is great. If the exhaust was not so loud, I'd love it.

Do what I did and put a real muffler on it. Put one of those thick rubber mats they use for horse trailers in the bed. Those two things have made it quieter.

I think i will check into the diesel then. I like the idea for farm use over gas since most everything else is on diesel.

Thanks for the reviews

I have the Kubota diesel 1100 - total workhorse and best made RTV out there - not fast but fast enough - will run 20-25 mph. The cab is incredible - it is like being in your truck. AC/Heater/defrost/wipers/stereo/dust proof/hydraulic bed - worth every penny

That's a great looking rig but I don't see the advantage of diesel over gas.

the only way they sell it is diesel so to get this set up you go diesel - lol - I have owned two of these and they are awesome machines - not as publicized as mules or rangers (of which I have owned 3) but these are the real deal- and as the man said, when using for farm diesel is available since most other equipment will use the same

Kubota dealership right up the street from the house. I've thought about looking at them 'cause I've heard good things, but the cab looks so darn dorky. You gotta picture of the outside?

The main reason I went diesel is very simple Bill. I have trouble with gas engines that do not get run regularly and I have absolutely no problems with diesel engines regardless how I use them. Most of my use is at very low speeds and lots of idling either on the farm or quail hunting and a diesel is superior for that type of work. I can pull an 8' double roller cultipacker with ease with the Mule Pro DX and maybe use a gallon of fuel in 2-3 hours of hard work. Try that with a gas engine. Gas engines are fine for play or light duty work if you run them regularly but if you work one hard and want it to stay under you, I give the oil burner the nod.

Last weekend, I was in wet, muddy conditions, in and out of 4wd, pulling 1000 lbs of dogs and trailer, plus 2 other hunters and 3 dogs in a box in the bed plus water tank. 7 dogs total. I burned 3 gallons of gasoline total. The 4010 Trans Mule never belched or groaned. Bulletproof!!!!!!

at the end of the day if I am comfortable and the unit performs I could give a flip about what it looks like - telling you they are awesome machines - go to a Kubota dealership and drive one - there is nothing else out there on the market like this machine

Not seeing the full cab with ac and air tight doors that are dust proof - do they make that? I see a pic of a cab but there is no way to see the inside of it. Also only see it in the crew for 25K?

How good are the diesel cabs in the slop? I'm assuming they're heavier? Never knew anyone who owned one.

That's about the same experience I've had with my two Gators. The first one had 1,600 hours on it when I traded for the one I now have. Neither ever failed to start. Both idled a lot when used for judging NSTRA trials. The only diesel I've ever been around was a Mule that was used in NSTRA. It was loud and more costly that a gas Mule. I think we have a Chevy vs Ford thread going here.
