I know this topic has been discussed quite a bit but I need some advice. My brother and I are both in the market for a new UTV. A year or two ago I would have settled on a ranger crew rather quickly. This summer I had the opportunity to look at a brand new mule and I must say it was slick. They have come a long way. I know I want a crew cab with power steering. It will be used for recreation/hunting. What are the pros and cons of each? What do you recommend? Thank you for your help!

The ranger has much better suspension and much more comfortable for recreational use. Just work I'd lean towards the mule just because that's what they were designed for. I've put my rhino through hell and back but if I do it again I'll buy the ranger.

We just bought one of the new crew double cab mules and love it! Seating for 6, expandable bed, half door make everyone feel safe, and we bought the bells but not the whistles. Biggest complaint I have is not being able to find a true half-fold windshield. I bought on from the dealer and it has a small flip-up on the bottom.... Oh well.

I am a big guy and I do not feel cramped like I did when I tested the Ranger for what that's worth. Also, some of the dealers we looked at took us through the shop to see what was being worked on and it wasn't mules, so you be the judge for yourself.

Test both and see what you like, we did and selected the mule and I've never looked back!

Big ones line-up, little ones bunch-up

I like the bed of the Mule better. You can't lay a 4 by 8 sheet of plywood in a Ranger. It's not the plywood but my dog box for me.

My son sales Rangers for Hoffpauir Outdoor Superstore. Go figure. grin
I took a ride in the new mule MULE PRO-FXT last month and I have to admit I was impressed at how far they have advanced.

I have owned 3 Ranger 6x6's. First one was awesome. Second one had transmission issues. Last one was junk IMO - I spoke to a long time service manager at a Polaris dealership and he told me that Polaris had started farming out their parts overseas. He said he saw a huge decline in the quality of their RTVs.

On my last one I had some major issues under warranty. After months of trying to get Polaris to even acknowledge me I finally got it resolved after having my attorney send them a letter. So don't count on much help if you have issues.

So for me a Ranger is now out. I have had two Kubota 1100's and love them. Good luck to you

The new Mule Pro FX is every bit as smooth and fast as the Ranger. The three year warranty from Kawasaki, opposed to the 6 month Polaris Warranty is also worth a lot.

I went with the Mule.

was about to post this same question as I was having trouble finding old threads about it. I am starting to lean towards the Mule PRO FXT. Going to test drive one this weekend.

Don't test drive the Mule unless you're ready to buy it.. smile

Just kidding.. Check them all out, drive them all, and buy the one you like.
We went with the Mule Pro FXT LE.. Who ever said the ranger is a smoother ride, I beg to differ..

Thanks for all the awesome input. I'm leaning towards the mule too. I've heard the mule's suspension has caught up to the Polaris. Any truth to that? On the down side, I have heard a couple negatives about the mule. I was told by a ranger owner friend that dust fills the cab from underneath between the cab and the bed. Also heard that the air filter is in a poor location causing it to get full of dust quickly causing the machine to run poorly. Anyone have any experience with these issues?

Yeah, I am excited about driving it. I think it all comes down to personal preference. In regards to the smoother ride question that people mention...i think people don't always realize there is a new Mule Pro FXT LE. In fact, I had a buddy who prefers the Polaris, but admitted he thought the Mule Pro FXT was smoother.

The Mule has a bigger bed when not in the Crew layout. I think both are good ATV's and/or top choices in the current market. I prefer the looks of the Ranger and I think they ride a little bit better than the Mule and they also have a higher top speed as well as the larger motor but neither of those stats factored into my decision. Purchase either confidently and you'll be fine.

I just bought a mule two door last week. I looked at them both

If you need a 4 door I would pick the mule because the overall length is the same as the two door.

The ride is smooth and 45 is plenty fast. If you're quick you can catch a 16 with an extra rebate. Not to stir the pot I think my 16 mule is smoother than my buddy's 16 ranger. The ranger is faster but that's doesn't mean much

I had a Ranger and now have the Mule Pro. The ride in the mule is every bit as good with its independent suspension and the power steering is good as well. Seems roomier in the cab area and the seats are a little larger with better sitting position

Do you mule owners have problems with dust entering the cab while driving?

Dalee, I have a Mahindra and love it. With that being said they are new and I bought the first year they came out, so I have had problems but if you buy from Gavin at J5 he will do everything to take care of any issues with no questions asked.

It's not fast by any means, but the thing is a workhorse

Look at the tailgate. This is what I'm talking about. The restriction through the end is a design flaw. That alone would eliminate the Ranger for me.

And I have no issues with the tailgate. Not sure what you mean "restrictions through the end"

I'm gonna be in the market for my first SxS around the new year. Several years ago, I would have went and bought a Ranger without a doubt. I think it's going to be a little harder decision now!
