I tried searching for this before I posted, but what I found was in regards to 5th wheel.

Looking to put a gooseneck in my truck and a couple people have all told me to do B&W. While I appreciate quality, I honestly cannot afford it. Normally I would just wait and install the best, however in this case it is time sensitive and I really need to install something rather quickly.

My question is:
Do you have any suggestions on what is a pretty good contingency to B&W?
What all what I need to buy?
Where would be a good place to buy from?
Anyone here have an truck accessory shop I could support?

I would much rather buy from someone on THF if they offer it, but would entertain other suggestions for sure.

That's the best alternative. You'll need a set of rails which should run you about $200 plus installation but that really is your next best bet over the B&W.

Save money and install it yourself. I did a B&W a few months back and it was pretty easy.

Or find a good welder and do it with 12 inch channel iron and weld it to frame with a drop in ball... We did all of my dodges and it did not void any warranty.... Poeple say it does but I'm not sure 100% and my new ford is fixing to get the same type of hitch... We tow 32 foot trailers with 16-17 round bales all the time and I've never had a issue. Cost around a 100$ plus about 3.5 hours worth of labor.

Id say this^^^

They supply instructions and installation really isn't hare at all. The hardest part for me was drilling that hole in a brand new pickup.

There was a used B&W in the classifieds on here a while back. Also may check a salvage yard.

Thank you.

When I bought the truck it had rails in it. The previous owner worked in the oilfield and hauled an RV, however he didn't leave the receiver. Only the rails.

I didn't think about that. That is a great idea.

If you already have rails for fifth wheel i would search on craigslist for the goosneck ball plate.
like this one. Says he is willing to part out. http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/cto/4962826840.html

Or this one. http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/pts/4927276009.html

Good luck.

Skylar send me your truck info. I will make a phone call. I get good pricing on B&W.

Do the '05's have the plate across the frame for the factory g'neck? I just installed the factory g'neck on my '14.

I don't think they do. My '13 doesn't. It may have been an option but I think it started in '14. I know my '12 didn't because I installed a B&W on it myself.

I didn't see one.

I have the rails in the bed, but I was looking to obtain a hidden hitch, so I still have full use of my bed, when I need it.

Skylar,

If you have Reese style rails already, all you need is something like this

x3

Measure twice, cut once. I started with a 4" hole saw that was dull, and switched to a hand jigsaw to finish it off. Install took about 2 1/2 beers.
