I bought my RV when I got on my current lease from one of the guys on the lease, so it was already out there. I am now moving leases and will have to tow it about 2 hours to my new place. It hasn't moved in at least 5 years. I am going to replace the tires and make sure the lights work. What else do I need to do before towing it down the highway? I have the title, but it isn't registered or inspected. Can I get some kind of 1 trip permit, or do I have to go to all the trouble of getting it inspected and registered? I have no experience with RV's and have no idea what I need to do, so any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I have made the same move from lease to lease a couple of times and towed other gnarily loads. I always wait until early Sunday morning. There is less traffic and there are fewer LEOs out at that time. Create yourself a backroad route. Don't worry...you can pull it.

Check the u bolts and make sure they aren't bad either

I would check the wheel bearings. If you cant pull them apart and pack them I would at least push some grease up in them best as you can

I think you will need to register it unless you can come up with some dealer tags. Not so sure about the inspection in view of current changes. I would guess no on the inspection.
I would definitely pack those wheel bearings......some trailers have a grease fitting so you can pump grease into the wheel bearing area. If you have this fitting, suggest you jack up each wheel and as grease is added and turn the wheel by hand. Don't over do it or you will push the grease seal out. Some say 3 to 4 pumps as you turn the wheel.
Don't get in too big of a hurry and you will be fine.

You can get a one-trip permit from the DMV and not waste money on a registration. A One-Trip Permit is also exempt from displaying a current Texas Safety Inspection and the permit is very inexpensive!

You might call DMV just to make sure your camper qualifies. A buddy of mine uses an office type trailer for his hunting cabin and moves it by getting one of these permits.

Thanks for that tip. I take my RV campling one time a year and really don't feel like paying for inspection and registration. I didn't know you could get a 1 trip permit.

Not sure how heavy the trailer is or the size of your pickup, but if you are 1/2 ton or less with a sizable trailer, a weight-distribution hitch will make the trip MUCH safer. If you don't have one, borrow one from a buddy. They don't take long to set up... Trailer brakes, too. If you have neither, it may be time to borrow a pickup...
