Im coming from out of state and I lived in a rural area that did not require a emissions check. So come to find out I may or may not need to do an emissions check here in TX with my mandated annual vehicle inspection, depending on where I go to have it done.

Here is my dilemma....I have an 2003 Silverado with a gas 6.0L. Its got a small lift(.512/.519) Crane cam and LT headers. Its all tuned on EFI Live and its actually very mellow and runs perfect as a daily driver. The problem is that I am not sure what the standards are in order to pass this inspection?

If anyone knows of an inspection shop somewhere between the Dallas and Greenville area that can help with getting me through this process, it would be much appreciated.

Please PM me, Thanks

So I did a little more digging. Since my home address is in Hunt County, I would be exempt from the emissions portion of the vehicle inspection and only undergo a safety inspection, according to the this:
https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/vi/NewToTexas.htm

Can somebody that lives in Hunt County confirm the extent of their vehicle inspection, that happens to have after-market exhaust work? Again....much appreciated.

If Hunt county only does a safety inspection they will not check your emissions. I get my vehicles inspected in Grayson county and they have never tested for emissions in any way.

Thanks. That makes me feel a little better about this.

However, I did call a place in Greenville (Valvoline something??) today and the guy that answered the phone said they visually inspect everything with the exhaust. Do they visually check underneath the truck for non-OEM exhaust or modified emissions in Grayson Co?

The reason I ask is because adding long tube headers changes what someone that is visually inspecting would expect to see.

As long as the muffler and catalytic converter is there, you should be good to go.

You may just need to check around. The guy that does my inspections has never looked under the vehicle. He looks at the wipers, lights, honks the horn and glances at the tires. It probably just depends on the individual.
