Ok so i picked it up from a guy who used it around his 1 acre property since he bought it new in 2000. Meticulous records were kept all the way down to oil changes that he provided me with. I noticed the CVT filter had some fray from the CVT belt so i put a new belt on and new CVT filter. Also put new fuel filter and regular air filter on. When i tested it out i didnt really get on to it but i didnt really have any power issues. Took it to the lease the last weekend and starts fine idles fine and run fines however once i get to roughly 13 mph it can not or will not go any faster and it starts makeing almost like a air blow out sound coming from the mufflar from time to time when i am floored. Also my brother has the same exact mule and i used his for a bit this season and i could tool around my place all day on sat and sun and burn maybe a quarter tank of diesel. On mine i hunted hard so was only used for to and from stand each day and checking feeders and burned almost half a tank of fiesel. I am pretty sure it is a fuel related issue almost sounds starved however it used alot so i dont know. I ordered the service manual and it should be in before the end of the week just hoping someone has seen or experienced an issue like this.

Did you change the fuel filter?

Is the engine reaching full rpms? and how bad was the air filter when you changed it? Did you check the engine oil?

belt had about 550 hours on it no terribly bad but i didnt want to chance it snapping while on the other side of the lease or something. Good enough where i kept it in my tool box as an emergency back up to get it on a trailer or something of that sort. Air filter DIRTY. Fuel filter i did change and bleed all the lines. Line 2 &3 bleed quickly but line one was strange had to bleed the crap out of it in order to get the fuel in. Thinking i may have a pinhole in that line sucking in air. Engine is reaching full rpms runs great until i hit that speed then just hits an acceleration wall. ALmost like i have it in low but it is in high.

I would start with replacing that line and double checking the part number for the belt when you get the book.

If your still at a wall there this is a worry... with the air filter being that bad theres no tellin how long he ran it like that.. and if it was starving for fuel or air you wouldn't be reaching full RPMs that's a main symptom of a fuel problem along with smoke. So... running with the air filter being that dirty and you have two lines bleeding well but one that's not im worried that your engine got dusted and you got a dead cylinder...

yeah thats what i was afraid of if thats the case. If thats the case is that an entire engine replacement dont suppose i would get lucky enough just to rebuild and replace that cylinder parts and pieces huh

Sure it wasn't the oil filter you changed instead of a cvt filter?

As long as the parts are available and there is not to much damage you could just replace the rings and pistons and really depends on how much damage has occurred inside... really depends on how much its worth to you at that point. Id get a mechanic to assure you that's what it actually is and asset the damage and price from there.

There is still a possibility its something as simple as a line or whatnot. Hope it turns out for the best

Did you check the screen in the exhaust? On my Kubota it is between the tail pipe and muffler.

No sir i did not check that i will look into that this weekend. Also just learned there ther is a plug on the muffler that you should pull from time to time and get all the sediment and soot out i guess so i will be looking into that as well.

yeah it is a year model 2000. I am hoping once my service manual arrives i will be able to tear into it a little more and get to the root of the problem. Also Navasot from what my brother said the CVT filter was dirty however the regular air filter was average dirty in his words. He just wanted to change it to start fresh. He said it would still have worked for a while. He did all the replacement parts and pieces on it since he does all the service on his and by trade is a diesel mechanic however unfortunatly he says he cant really know until he can get in front of it and see what it is doing to figure it out which wont be for another couple of weeks.

Was the engine warmed up when you were driving it?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that nothing may be wrong with your Mule. I don't have a diesel Mule- mine is EFI gas- it's a 2010 Transmule. It exhibits exactly the same behavior you are talking about- you can run it up to speed, then no matter how much pedal you push it won't go any faster, and feels like it's bogging down.
That's the governor. It limits the speed. Are you sure you're not just hitting the "Mule wall"? I have heard the diesel versions are limited to lower speeds than the gas ones, and my 84 year old mother in law can outrun my Mule if I give her a small head start....

That is also very possible^^ I would expect it to go faster than 13mph but I know the first gators and cubs ran about the same speed. Do you know it was going that fast or did it just feel like it?

they are slow as dirt i will admit that. My brother ha the exact same one year model and everything as i do and before i bought mine i was using his on my lease. I could get up to 22, 23 mph on the harder packed surfaces out there no problem in his. In mine speedometer only shows 12 to 13 mph and i know speedometer could be messed up but i used his enough and drove mine enough to where it is apparent i am going considerably slower in mine than in his on the same surfaces.

only going by speedometer but like i said it was considerably slower than my brothers and the back pressure sound that i was hearing coming from underneath the dump bed motor muffler area hard to explain the sound but best i can think would be like a big dog kind like mock bark real deep but not a pronounced bark more of a wooooff as oppose to a ruff.
I know i know jack [censored] here trying to explain the sound comparing it to dog bark

Maybe the governor has been adjusted?
I'd take it in and get it checked at a reputable dealer, if you don't it may take a while to figure it out.

I had a friend with a similar problem. He had overfilled the oil.
