Hello Wise folks, curious what i could do to help my chances of my stuff not getting stolen when I'm not at the lease. Don't have any room to keep them at the house and want to keep them at the lease in a barn for the kiddos to use when we are there. Not really interested in towing them every time.

Any suggestions of what i do to them before I leave the lease to ensure that they will be there? And yes, I know the cure all is bring them with me......

Thinking out of the box. There are alarm systems that utilize the cellphone network. Depending upon the type of structure you will be using for storage, that might be a possibility.

pull the rims off. store them somewhere separately put the lugnuts in your truck. It'll have to be a well prepared thief to plan that far ahead. Just don't forget where you put the rims and nuts!!

Chains won't stop the ambitious. The cellular-based alarm system won't stop theft either but it's the best idea thus far in my opinion.

Get a good insurance policy and don't worry about it.

If you're really concerned and don't want to spend the money, I'd remove a tire/wheel from each vehicle. Just stash the tires/wheels behind a bush or something so you don't have to haul them.

But I leave lots of stuff at my place and my only peace of mind is great insurance.

Good luck!

Edit to add: Huntnfly already beat me to it!

if you can afford it, a storage container will deter most thiefs

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

If you leave it sitting for a long time with the crappy gas they sell now, it probably won,t start anyway. TX85 is right the storage container is the way to go for storing all your stuff.

Run the cable through the frame of the ATV and the eye of the auger.

I would make sure I put a fuel additive in it like Stabil. Also would worry about rats chewing up the wiring while in the barn. I would mount an IR camera up very high to check on it while you are not there. Lot of great ideas posted above also.

No IME it will only make it worse since rats/mice seek out dark spaces. I used to leave the hood up and seat off on the Rangers in South Texas to keep as much light as possible inside to keep the rats off. Also hooked up one of those longlife new light bulbs to add in light in the barns.

I leave mine at the lease year around. Put them in the shed and make sure I have plenty of rat poison out. Ours is a working ranch and there is usually someone up there every weekend and the rancher goes by camp a lot. From August through December, one of the retired guys pretty much lives there with his wife.

X2 they love enclosed dry places that they can build nest in. Your wire harnesses will be chewed in half. if its going to be in a barn get you a cat and just turn it loose in there..they do a good job of keepin them at bay. Also anytime you leave it there for a period of time plug the exuast pipe and it will save you alot of time cleanin dobber nest out of it.

I second hiding a trail camera out of view facing the entry way to the barn. Worked at my house a few years ago.

Ours stays at the lease year round. Full coverage insurance runs less than a hundred bucks per year.

Another problem you will have is the rats will eat the wires up.
