What keeps me questioning is. I have been to Italy and especially Rome quite a few times. When you see what they built and their lifestyle a couple of thousand years ago and then look at pictures from here a 150 years ago or less why the difference? What happened to all that knowledge in the 2000 years?

Great pics! I wouldn't call that the good old days. I'm a fan of indoor plumbing.
Back in the 80's my grandfather always said we are living in the good old days. He said he wouldn't ever want to go back to the hard times before the War. He had one hell of a job with Gulf/Chevron, but lived like he was barely making it and said he had more than he ever wanted.

The difference is the multitude of slave labor used then.

Thanks for sharing, no question as to how hard times were back then. Can you imagine driving a 40 team of mules/horses?

the black death in the 1300's set mankind back hundreds of years. Estimates of dead range from
75 to 200 million. That was a lot of folks in the middle ages.
