I was driving down one of the senderos close to the Brazos on the ranch, and I spotted something in the brush. I got out and found this: Lucy wife of John Moore 1864-1891

We had an old cemetery on our old quail lease in Oklahoma. Was always a covey of quail close by too. I think the most recent burial was 1891 iirc.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Run across them quite a bit in Tennessee and Alabama. Lots of forgotten family cemeteries in these here woods.
coffee spelled backwards is eeffoc. I don't give eeffoc until I have my morning coffee.

We've got one in a corner of our lease as well, buried 1885 or so. Last year we took the time to re-stack the rock wall around the grave, and clear all the brush out. Golden rule and all.

Good on you for honoring her that way. Hard times. John must have had some money and truly loved her, cause that's no cheap tombstone.
Also, people today have no idea how often children died back then. My grandmother had a 2 year old and a 4 year old die in her arms. And that was in the teens and 1920s. Fever epidemics I think, in Austin.
