I'm bitten by an alligator gar...on purpose.
Learning more about my favorite freshwater fish species any way i can, i have been interested in the bite pressure, and the attitude of alligator gar toward non prey species for years.
I went ahead and put my gloved hand into this 3 1/2 foot gars mouth to get an idea of how hard they can bite and with what kind of attitude they would do it with.
She did bite hard, she was not mean though and it took 5 minutes for me to even get my hand into her mouth while she tried to get away.
Even this small gar has enough bite pressure to cause damage, once they get to be over 7 foot they have massive muscles designed to crush their prey species, i would very much like to test the bite pressure of a 7 foot alligator gar some day, but not with my hand.

To get a real idea of what it's like being prey crushed by a 7' alligator gar I recommend you stick your head in one's mouth and then jamb your finger up his..... Well you get the idea. Please post a video.

Next thing you know you will be experimenting with a 7 ft gar's reproductive capabilities

They are harmless. Should be a protected species because flower child gets his rocks off catching them. To hell with the rest of us degenerates that shoot them understanding they are a a trash fish that has been around for ages and are not going anywhere in either of our lifetimes but his opinion is higher than the rest of us. What did I miss?

Head would make a better test.
Probably should do a hook test also and force a 6/0 hook down to your gut and see if it has any negative effect.
Or you could just give the gar thing a rest.

Had one that we caught in a cast net about 6 inches long we kept as a pet. When he was about a foot and a half or so he was too big and we turned him loose. I reached into the tank and caught him and pulled his mouth open to show his teeth and he bit my thumb. At that size their teeth are more needle like I was bleeding pretty good, but he just bit and let go. It was hard to convince myself to turn him loose and not smash him in the driveway with a claw hammer though!

Was one of the coolest pet fish ive had.
