My brother, his grandson and I went to the deer lease yesterday to do some work. We decided to get a feeder up and running. We hadn't used this feeder in over a year. When I opened the box that contains the timer and battery I was greeted with a face full of hornets. Must have been a dozen or more. I don't know for sure, I didn't stay around long enough to count them. I know several hit me in my chest. It's a miracle that we didn't get torn up by these guys! Not what I was expecting when I opened the box. Below is a picture of the box and the nest that was inside. I have probably ruined the motor inside with all the hornet spray I used to kill all those ________!

Ever since my folks bought an abandoned homestead when I was a kid, I always expect them. My first run to the lease this year is coming up. I'll approach every feeder and blind with wasp spray in my right hand. The guys make fun of me - as they stand about 20 yards back.
