While turkey hunting a few weeks back I came across these in Commanche. Can anyone tell me what these are called or time they came from?
I know nothing about them just love looking and finding them.

The 4 on the left look like arrow or spear heads, and the one on the right looks like a scraper. Neat find.

The point on the far left is a Gary point. The long slender point looks like a Darl. The other pieces look to be preform. It's always cool to find tools made by another hunter a few thousand years ago. up

^^^^^^^^ Agreed.

Gary on the left.

Second item: Darl, would be my best guess too. Possibly reworked.

The rest are common preforms.

Good eye.

Thanks for the info.
Neat looking up the areas of where certain points have been found.

Great finds up What type of terrain were you on when you found them (bottom of draws, flat land etc.)?

Yes, its amazing the sheer number of points/artifacts that are out there. Incredible how many 'surface' finds are collected each year. Digging is by far the most productive method, if you can find a site that allows it.

But, I have hunted on certain ranches in South Texas that are littered with small points (Tortugas and others).

Depends on the style and material.

Simple points, 45 minutes.

More difficult points (requiring you be careful with your notching, or parallel flaking, etc) a couple of hours.

Points are not that hard to make and are expendable. Arrow shafts on the other hand... are labor intensive and much more important than what you haft to the end of it.

But that is another subject entirely and we have already hi-jacked the OPS' thread badly enough.

Those are awesome,
Have you killed anything with them. Would be really neat to kill something with an arrow you made yourself.
I would love to make a screen and go down and dig in the areas I found these.

I guess I would call the terrains washouts? Kind of looked for a nice high point with a decent wash out on one end. My buddy actually took me to these places and if I can find a pic of the point he found out there I'll post it. It's one of the prettiest ones I've ever seen.

Meh....they're just rocks.

We have all kinds of modern 'tools' with which to work (Percussion and Pressure Flaking). It would be more difficult if was limited to using a deer antler, a piece of bone and a hammer stone.

That is why I really marvel at the abilities of those who survived....long before us.

Yes, have killed numerous deer, Javelina and a few hogs. Quit shooting hogs with them though...since it is difficult to get a 'pass through' on large hogs. They run off and invariably break your arrow shaft. Replacing a point (if needed) is not difficult or time consuming. Making a new arrow shaft is.
