Just wondering if any of you guys clean the lens and IR sensors on your cameras. Do you use something like windex or just water and a cloth? I have never cleaned mine and noticing they are not as sensitive to picking up pics deer as they once were

Finger or a wet paper towel or spit on my shirt works

I honestly don't think going the distance of using windex would make it any clearer.

I do a lot of photographing and a game camera is probably just as sensitive as a camera lens and sensor . They make special clean kits for the sensor and if you have never done it before be extremely careful or take it to a camera shop and let them clean it cause you can easily ruin a sensor cleaning it the wrong way . For the lens you can make a alcohol mixture of 40% alcohol and 60% purified water . Use a lint free cloth and a camel hair brush . Sometimes you can just use Canned Air and blow most particles off the outside lens but make sure not to blow inside where the sensor is located . Use a cutip for cleaning the lens with the alcohol mixture then use the lint free cloth to wipe with but wipe carefully in a circular motion. If you hold the camera lens upright under a light fixture you can see the light reflection in the lens but you can also see any lint or artifacts left behind . Use the Camel hair brush to lightly brush away artifacts or use the canned air . Do not touch the lens with your fingertips cause the oil and acid from your body can ruin the coating on the camera lens glass . You can buy a lens clean kit at walmarts for about $5.00 . Well worth the investment . Comes with brush , clean cloth and lens clean solution . Everything all in one package .

I think the key to long lens/sensor life is limiting the amount of UV rays they get. I try and put mine where they are shaded and not pointing directly east or west. The plastic gets crazed just like the headlights on your car. I've seen some folks on here make boxes to do the same. Once that plastic gets UV damaged the range goes down.
