I am leaving out on Thursday night for a weekend of Hunt Master School with the Texas Youth Hunting Program, Then back to the same ranch the next week for a youth Turkey, Hog and Varmint Hunt.

We lost our Boy Scout Troop about a year ago, we have been trying to get the time to take our gear to a deserving troop. I will be within 20 miles of them so there stuff is going with me.

This should be a couple of interesting trips, I look forward to them and will keep you posted. grin

Thank You
Robert

Thank you for taking the time to volunteer to, I think it's a great organization. I've gone on 3 or 4 TYHP hunts with my boys and learned as much on every hunt as they did. Once I get them out of the house and things slow down a bit, I intend to do a little payback and attend some myself as a volunteer.

Have fun!

I had a bit of a falling out with TYHP, but I shouldn't have. They were just trying to ensure the safety of the kids. I had a hunt cancelled last year when I told them I was in Africa during the Ebola scare. I was no where near any of the areas, but they were being cautious. I was more upset that my son missed the hunt than anything. I think I will try again this year and see what we can do.

Sounds Like Boy Scout Training rofl I am a firm believer that if your child is going to participate you should do all you can to help, and make it available to other children who's parents can't or won't help. We have only been on one hunt so far but he loved it, second was canceled for weather, the next is next weekend.

There are limited hunting opportunities in our neck of the woods, and only a few THYP hunts. We had a heck of a time getting a hunt together. Maybe now we can get a few more going for others in the area.

Thank you all for your support, I may be asking questions for some of you experienced hunt masters in the coming months.

Thank You
Robert

Well it was an extra long tiring weekend but well worth it. I am now a trained Hunt Master, The first hunt you set up, plan and execute on your own you have to have an experienced hunt master act as a mentor, then your on your own. Infarct that makes you eligible to mentor someone else. at one time there were over 70 hunt masters in the panhandle aria and now we are down to about 10 or less, and most of us were trained last weekend. I look forward to helping build this aria back up. I thank you all for your support

I have been thinking about volunteering for this myself. I've always enjoyed taking youths hunting and fishing for the first time and teaching them the basics. My only concern right now is how much travel there will be.

That would depend on where you live, and how many hunts you want to help with. We have very few close here in the Panhandle, a few around DFW / East TX and a bucket load in central TX to the cost.

Visit the web site and give Chris Mitchel a call. He oversees the operation, I have met him and the other two guys that are on the payroll. They are all very knowledgeable and helpful. The two ladies in the San Antonio office are as well I just haven't met them yet.

You do not have to take hunt master training to help, They always need guides, cooks, and help with the skills trial...

One thing to remember is that they do not put on the typical hunt, it is a little heavy on rules but it is all due to safety and insurance regulations. up
