Over the years hunting was taught to me as sitting up in a tree stand and waiting for the right animal to pass by!
I have hunted on several leases over the last 10 years however recently i purchased my own property that has a raised box blind , feeder and a pen. I just made the pen larger this last weekend and put my own choice of feeder inside. From the Feeder pen towards the blind the first 20 feet is dirt then the remaining 110 yards is mid thigh broom grass. Back behind the blind going towards camp im about to have the pathways in which we will use to get back to camp shredded and scraped so grass isnt a factor for a while thats where my question comes in.......

looking at the picture just below thats the view from my blind ( 131 yards from feeder ) With hunting season coming would you shred that path now ( broom weed ) along with the rest of the area that I am having shredded? Or leave it alone until after hunting season and leave the grass during the season even though it will die off im sure?

after shredding that area it will of course be flat and mowed down however i was wondering if the brush in that area would help or does it even matter?

i already have 2 doe visiting the feeder pen.

I'm new to blinds and feeders so this is all a learning experience for me.

Shred away, wont bother them at all. I have had deer walk out while I was shredding.

yep, shred away. on my past lease, I had a large tall grassy area sprinkled with little mesquites out from several blinds (both on the ground and elevated). I would shred the grass (avoiding mesquites), plow and put in food plots based on fall / winter rains. During the drought in '11 & '12, my shredding/plowing/planting was considerably later than normal, early-mid Oct. After plowing, there would be deer tracks by the next morning in the freshly plowed dirt

Don't be scared to use your property, deer will soon learn the sound of your vehicle and will tolerate it somewhat. Keep in mind though, if you show up and run the hell out of the place on atvs and just generally drive all over the place all day, they will learn that too.

If you are just out enjoying the place, working on things, they will figure it out and not see you as a harassment.

BTW, nice piece of land it looks like, considering it is sideways I bet you are excited about having your own dirt.

Owning my property is awsome and setting it up is something I'm enjoying a lot.

Setting it up and working on it is the funnest part and is year round. How many acres did you get?

Like the guys above said. Shred away I have killed hogs shredding and seen deer. BTW, GREAT choice of feeder. I love mine. This will be my first year hunting my own dirt as well. It has been fun setting it and the work wont ever stop but there is pride in ownership. Good luck with the new place!

31 acres a 4x6 lifted blind , a feeder in which I just replaced and a pond.

7 seconds twice a day just to keep them in the habit of coming around. Which according to my cams they are. I was really surprised with all the green stuff. But they are. I will bump the timers up to around 14 around the beginning of Oct.

31 acres with a pond, great way to start out, keep some good cover around too. I have a very small property now, we also live on it (15.3a), Big change from nearly 400 acres, but I see deer all the time, just have to work harder managing the small amount of real estate.

On small acreage, you wont be able to manage the deer herd worth a hoot, that will depend a lot on what your surrounding neighbors are doing.

Beautiful property. Looks very diverse. Shred away, throw rye grass seed all around your feeder area. It works.
