Looking for several ideas to build floats for my 4 wheeler. The low water crossing at my lease is not so low and cannot get to my hunting area.

If it's too high to drive across don't try or you might just die.

Reminds me of when my Dad learned that a 3 Wheeler would float. Only problem was that it didn't float right side up. Was fun to watch.

The Jim Ned creek is actually a river and runs thru the middle of our lease. Normally the water is a trickle or is dry at the crossing but all of the rains have caused it to be a little too deep for the 4 wheeler or my truck. It can run about waist deep for weeks after heavy rainfall as the drainage is slow. If it rains heavy the creek can get about 20 feet deep which i would never think about crossing and then drains quickly back to waist deep. At waist deep the water moves very slowly, no quick currents, no rapids. It is thigh deep in the picture and is too deep for the 4 wheeler so just looking for pontoons or barrels to mount to the 4 wheeler.

In the warm months I have actually plugged the muffler and walked my 4 wheeler across but in the winter it is too cold when the water gets close to the family jewels. 12 of 14 years there has not been an issue with high water but need to figure something out in years of heavy rain.

Maybe a cheap Jon boat? May be safer.

This summer, set a pole on each side of the river. Run 2 cables parallel to each other approx. 3 ft. apart. Create a block/ tackle gurney system to lift your ATV. Use your safety harness to secure yourself to the top cable. Walk between the cables to the other side and then pull your ATV over by using a long rope attached to the block/tackle. I would use at least 3/4" cable if not larger if you can find it.

How far from one side to the other? Maybe a few 20' 2x12's...
I really hate to do what I am about to do, because it will be very painful for you.

The only thing preventing me from a bridge is the river can become roaring rapids when it rises. I was trying to brainstorm a floating dock to drive the 4 wheeler on and go back and forth across. I thought I would check out youtube and may have found a great idea. Just need to make sure enough ground clearance to get out of the water and up the bank. I still think this is more work than I want to do but may not have a choice. Did a search on floating 4 wheeler. https://youtu.be/f4nCvl7hfVw

Id get 4, 55 gallon sealed drums, build a treated deck over it. Then a rope across and pull yourself and the ATV across, like they did covered wagons back in the day. Or if you can find those huge blocks of Styrofoam like they use to float those big azz boat docks.

I built a duck blind in a similar manner and pulled it all over a lake.

After making the float or "raft" turn it into a ferry and manually pull yourself across.

Find an old pontoon boat…strip it down to a floating deck barge.

Lease was on had two places creek turned. Their was two cables streached across. One ground leavel the other bout 3 foot ihigher. Slide feet & hands, half way across, was always blast, had rollers on top cable if got deer or hog... Would go with bridge for atv, or make a good sturdy raft... Stay safe...

This would work but you better pull this "floating dock" up to high ground and tie it off darn good or the first heavy rain it just might be far down stream in a lot of pieces.

There is a company called E-Z doc. One section of dock will float your ATV. You can put tie downs on it etc. and pull it high enough that it won't ever get washed away. http://www.ez-dock.com/

An Argo will float but the problem with those is they have no shocks. So you get jerked around on every little bump.

I've rann my ATV through water that deep before, a slow and steady pace is your friend. Place your knees on the seat and feet on the back rack and go for it, do it all the time. If your tires have decent tread you can actually get them to float fairly well if you stay in the throttle while riding like I mentioned.
PS... My ATV is all stock with only aftermarket tires, no lift or snorkels

All the atv's I've owned basically floated. Just fill your tires full. The front end sometimes has a tendency to sink but you can easily lift it across..

I won't take the Gator 825i through high water. It's bigger that most. I don't wanna get wet. I don't wanna die yet.
