My dream gun may come true. Several years ago a question was posted here about "Your Dream Gun" or something similar. My request was a 25 rim-fire that could push a 55 grain bullet at 2000 fps from a 7 1/2 inch barrel. I'm hearing a few rumors that that just might happen. Since they started using the 27 cal nail gun case for the 17 WSM there might be a straight cased 25 or a 27 cal in the future.

You can do that now if your willing to shoot an air rifle. They're are several ways to get to 450 fpe. That's a pretty resonable velocity for a 30cal pellet gun.

They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason! nidea

I like them also but yesterday was a good example of how anemic they really are. Had a yote out at around 35 yards semi walking away, when he looked back I put one with my 5 1/2 inch single six into his right shoulder then he took off. Followed him for another hundred yards and got 2 more rounds in him before he gave it up. I just want something in a rim-fire with a little more power. Not interested in a center-fire I've got plenty of them, 25 or 27 cal rim-fire would be perfect for what I want.

Who makes a straight cased 25 cal center-fire that will push a 55 grain bullet 2,000 ftps?

The closest you'll come is a 25/20 but it's not straight cased. It's rated to push a 86 gr bullet at 1760. Load the 60 gr 256 bullet in it and I'd bet you could get 2000. I would doubt the 27 cal nail gun case would take the pressures needed to push a 55 gr bullet that fast.

I would like 22 Mag to be introduced in like a 10/22 or something like minded.

Why not 22mag? would definitely have worked much better than 22lr for this example.

I have a Remmy 597 semi-auto in 22 mag. Put a Leo 3-9x40 on it. Sweet shooter ---nailed a cottontail in the head at 75 yards with it. Have not had a chance to try pumping 5 or 6 quick ones into a 'yote at 50 to 100 yards. But yea, a 17 wsm semi auto would be something!

Alexander Arms has a 17HMR semi auto
Excel Arms made a 17HMR semi auto for a while, have one in the safe and it is a good shooter. They still make it in 22mag.

Ruger made the 10/22mag for a while but do not remember when production stopped.

Your problem is the pistol.

A .22 pistol is close to worthless but in a rifle it's fine for most truck gun duty

What your wanting is a pistol round that would be perfect for shooting coyotes at close range from a truck. Plenty of rounds exist already thst will do that

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I believe Ruger found what most others did, that the .22mag was a problem child in an auto loader. I have a 1980s H&R .22 mag auto loader that I've had to put three firing pins in in less than 500 rounds. I think the Ruger was rumored to have a lot of problems which is why they stopped making it.

With the exception of being a centerfire, the 22 TCM fits the bill nicely.
