OK, so after 10 years my danner snake boots are no longer waterproof. And to replace these with the same model, I would have to buy the ones with a side zipper, and I'm not going to do that! So before buying another pair of dancers, I thought I would ask you guys what y'all wear. I preferred lace up to pull on but could deal with either, but no side zippers!

I hunt West Texas where there's lots of thorns snakes in the weather can drop in to the teens. But there's a lot of 50 and 60° days too. It's not unusual for the day to start off in the 20s and end up in the 60s.

So what do you guys recommend

I don't know how they would work over there but I have scent blocker Mack daddy bone collector boots. I have hunted with them in Missouri when it was 10 degrees and I love them. I also used them in New Mexico where it was -5 degrees at daylight and 50 degrees during the day and they worked great. They are lace up.

If you are hunting the Trans Pecos, I would recommend the Chippewa (not sure of spelling) as they are great in the dog pear and lechiggea (again spelling). If you are hunting where these are not a problem, I would look at the Lowa boots. I tried on most every brand at the Shot Show last year and these were the most comfortable and so far are holding up to the abuse I give them. I was lion hunting last week in Northern AZ at -15 degrees and feet were amazingly warm. I did hate it when the snow came over the top of the boots when I stepped into a deep drift.
Adios,
Gary

I've got a pair of these on right now.

Comfortable and waterproof. I prefer pull-ons because laces seem to snag cactus and sand spurs.
If you have big calves, you might look elsewhere though. They fit snug at the top.

This is the first year I've hunted in Chippewa snake boots and I love them.

They are honestly the most comfortable boots I own, sometimes I even work in them when I'm around tall grass or cactus.

I believe they have a waterproof snake boot too. Mine are not marked water proof but I've hunting in the rain and my feet were fine.

Do you have to have a come-a-long to get them off your feet? My new ones give me anxiety but damn they are comfortable....until I have to get them off...

Depends on what and where I am, if bow hunting always rubber boots. If gun hunting or walking fields I have a pair of xCountry
running shoes that are comfortable and stable.

Irish Setters. Warm, dry, and great soles. They are also cut a little wider so a better fit for me than the Danner.

I have a pair of insulated Irish Setters that I bought last year. I don't really hunt them that hard but so far they have been great, and are extremely warm. They are lace ups, and seem to me to be a little bulky but they are super light.

I think these are the ones:

Well I have had 2 pair of Chippawa boots, and they are good. I will say the best boots I have are my Russell Prickly Pear bird shooters...they are comfortable (made for my foot), durable (made from some of the best leather with a toecap for added durability), and made in the good ol USA, by good folks in WI--that when you call they pickup the phone and answer--(chips are made in the USA too--so no problem there). Are they expensive...you damn right... But they are the best! I have had this pair going on 6 years...and I might get them re-soled next year. I chunked my pair of Chips after 2.5 years of wear. They are uninsulated but with wool stocks plenty warm for Texas, and with cotton socks cool enough for summer wear. They are snake proof, lined with turtle skin...there proprietary snake fabric. They are a moccissan type construction and these are triple vamped, that mean your foot is wrapped in 3 layers of leather, don't know if they are truly "waterproof" but my feet have never been wet in them. If you don't mind waiting a bit get measured and invest in your feet...They will take you places!

I recently switch from "hunting books" to just wearing my ariats too. Very comfy. Now if I was doing a Western hunt that required lots of walking/hiking/mountain climbing, I would switch to something with more ankle support, but love the ariats for hunting Texas.

Good looking pair of Scoots...
I just shy away from the lace ups, I know they give more support etc etc....
But I prefer a slip on

Another vote for the Irish Setters. I am on year two and zero issues.

I leave them unbuckled when taking them off! They just seem to bind real bad around the heel. I'm guessing over time they'll break in. If I forget my chips my backup boots are some cabelas front zipper snake boot that have been awesome and are super easy to get on/off.

Irish Setter Vaprtrek. They come in snake-proof and regular 8-inch, insulated and non-insulated. Best hunting boot I ever had.
