Cause we don't have any freaking acorns!

wanna go hunt my close to home spot but deer are off the corn and onto the acorns.

I'm going back down to the brush country

No acorns on our place either. Deer are really working the feeders, seems to be more than the normal amount of deer showing up. up

Well I guess hunting the deer instead of letting them hunt you is out of the question?

Maverick county and Webb county might argue that opinion

Bowhunting is a bit different

Well, first off on a 10 acre tract in a neighborhood, it's hard to get all Rambo on them

Second off, bowhunting requires the stealth. No beer drinking or snuff dipping in the bow stand.

Hard to sneak up on a whitetail crunching on oak leafs and acorns

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I guess putting up a new stand location in the oaks they are eating acorns at would be useless.

10 acres would be tough...

Any idea where the deer come from? Place to cut them off before they get there?

None, just giving you a hard time since you gave it up for a few years. I have let some of my best bucks walk while bow hunting. Any luck?

Scouting for sign, feeding locations and trails would be a starting point for any hunt when setting up stands, correct? TC are great tools to do that for you. To many get locked in on a feeder when they aren't producing they panic. 10 acres is tough but if you choose to hunt it then you know what you are up against. I would look for active feeding spots on the best acorns producing trees and hand feed corn in those locations you will increase your odds.

None yet since I am like you, picky. I only get one buck 13" or better in an AR county so I am waiting till closer to the rut to see what new bucks show up.

I am hoping that our pre-rut activity amps up over the next week. Next weekend will probably be my last Texas hunt until Thanksgiving, so I will miss the rut here.

Reports from this weekend (after I had to come home) are that some new bucks have started to show up. Dad videoed a ten that would push 140" and an eight that will push 130". I have seen the eight, but he is about 1.5 miles from his summer home and have no clue where the ten came from.

Grayson has produced some true monsters and there some monsters on TC's every year, but I would still say as a whole, south Texas wins because of consistence, longevity, and huntability.

Grayson would probably win if you took average score of mature deer. With that being said though that's a loaded deck because the densities are so much lighter in Grayson.

a few (handful) of big deer and the media attention they have received has made Grayson seem like it is the Holy Grail of deer hunting. a large part of it is because the Hagerman is public and the "everyman" has a opportunity to hunt there due to the draw.

but, hands down, there are more 170, 180, even 200" bucks in both Webb and Maverick counties than there is in Grayson

I'll put the King Ranch up against them for numbers and higher densities.
